"Sherilyn, upset?" Sherilyn tilted her head slightly, her expression a mix of confusion and disbelief, as if the notion was utterly foreign to her.

Seeing her dazed look, Karol was on the verge of panic. "Of course he's upset! Mr. Johnson is crazy about you!"

She stomped her foot in frustration, "You better think of something fast to explain this to Mr. Johnson!"

Sherilyn let out a barely audible scoff and nonchalantly nodded, "Yeah, got it."

"These damn tabloids!"

Karol was seething, "They can really spin a tale!"

Swiping open an article, "Look at this, calling someone your 'new flame'? How could they? Just for clicks, they're throwing their dignity to the wind!"

Sherilyn was taken aback by her friend's fervor, "You really believe in me that much?"

"Of course!"

Karol didn't hesitate, "You've got a great guy like Mr. Johnson. How could any other guy catch your eye?"

Oh.

Sherilyn finally understood; it wasn't her that Karol believed in, but rather Gilbert.

With a slight smile and a gentle shake of her head, Sherilyn's reaction left Karol momentarily puzzled, sensing a hint of disdain and scorn in her friend's demeanor.

Had she said something wrong?

...

At the hospital, Gilbert stepped out of the room, his face meeting Charles's hesitant look.

"What's up?"

These days he felt like he was burning the candle at both ends; too tired to beat around the bush.

Charles understood but hesitated out of consideration for Mr. Gilbert's feelings.

"Mr. Gilbert, it's about Sherilyn..."

He said, picking up his phone to display the trending news article, handing it over to Gilbert. "Take a look."

Gilbert skimmed the headline, and his expression immediately darkened.

Opening the photo and seeing the man in it, Gilbert's eyes flashed with a deep, icy fire.

"Done for the day?" Gilbert came closer, pulling up a chair next to her, idly spinning his phone in his left hand.

"Leaving after you're done?"

"In a bit," Sherilyn responded, still focused on her reflection as she continued to remove her makeup.

"Sherilyn."

Gilbert couldn't hold back any longer, placing his phone on the table, lighting up the screen with a casual, soft tone.

"Who's this guy?"

Sherilyn paused, glancing at the screen, her tone even lighter than his, "Don't know him."

"Don't know him?" Gilbert echoed, squinting slightly, "He seems to be holding your hand."

Oh. Sherilyn paused, then remembered, Galen had been handing her his business card at that moment.

"It's the angle," Sherilyn said with a light laugh, shaking her head, "We weren't actually holding hands."

Her demeanor was calm and composed, yet it carried an air of indifference, unwilling to elaborate further.
