He would choose her!

Could it really be true?

"Sherilyn?"

Seeing her silent and emotionless, Gilbert asked anxiously, "Is that okay?"

Suddenly, Sherilyn snapped back to reality, forcing a smile, "Let's talk when you've actually done it. You haven't cut ties yet, have you?"

"Yes."

Gilbert's gaze dimmed, "I understand... just give me a bit more time. I'll make it happen."

Sherilyn fell silent.

She hadn't seriously believed he would follow through with her words.

"That cough syrup..."

Gilbert kept his eyes on her, pleading, "Would you take it, please? It's really effective, works after just one dose."

Sherilyn was somewhat out of it all night.

Right before bed, something clicked, and she retrieved the cough syrup bottle from the cabinet, staring at it blankly with her phone in hand.

"What's got you zoning out?"

Rebecca White walked in after her shower, noticing her dazed state, and waved a hand in front of her face.

"What's on your mind?"

Sherilyn snapped back to reality, "Rebecca, sit down. I've got something to tell you."

"Oh, sure." Rebecca White pulled up a chair and sat down in front of her.

"It's like this..." Sherilyn briefly recounted her recent exchanges with Gilbert.

Rebecca White was surprised, "He moved out of Golden Oak Manor?"

"Mhm." Sherilyn nodded.

Rebecca White nodded slowly, "So, after he sorts things out with Caroline, do you have to keep your promise and get back together with him?"

Sherilyn remained silent, neither confirming nor denying, but her frown deepened.

Rebecca White glanced at the medicine in her hand, "Stop worrying about that for now. You said you'd wait until he's done. Just take your medicine."

With that, she opened the medicine box.

In the afternoon, after Caroline woke up from her nap and got ready, she instructed her caretaker, "Let's go over."

"Alright."

The caretaker knew she meant visiting the neighboring house.

Though Gilbert hadn't been back for several days, Caroline still went over daily to prepare dinner.

Waiting for Gilbert, and if he didn't show, she'd eat alone and continue waiting until late at night before returning to rest.

Essentially, she spent her evenings there.

As the caretaker wheeled Caroline towards the foyer, the doorbell rang.

Caroline was momentarily surprised, then her face lit up with joy, "Hurry, open the door!"

Someone was here? It must be Gilbert! He’s back! He came to see her!

"Right away." The caretaker hurried to open the door.

A tall figure stepped through the entrance, but the joy on Caroline's face faded bit by bit.

Seeing the visitor, "It's you."
