Sherilyn glanced at the message and instinctively turned to Gilbert, "Was it you? Did you tweak my script?"

"Are we not in a rush anymore?"

Gilbert smiled lightly, neither confirming nor denying, "Can we relax and have something to eat now?"

Of course, there were no objections.

The two made their way to the restaurant, one after the other.

Here at the South Building, there wasn't a dedicated chef.

That was because it wasn't necessary. Ever since Gilbert had moved in, he hadn't had a single meal here.

He would usually head back to Blue Haven, mostly to join his mother Katy for meals.

So, breakfast was prepared by Sophia.

This morning, Sophia had baked the toast that Jenna had specifically asked for.

But now, facing the freshly baked toast, Sherilyn found herself without an appetite.

She rubbed her stomach as it felt unusually cold.

"What's wrong?"

Gilbert noticed her discomfort and frowned slightly, "Feeling unwell?"

"No," Sherilyn shook her head.

"Is it the food that's not to your liking?"

"It's fine, I'll just have this," Sherilyn said as she reached for the toast and then directed Gilbert, "Pass me the jam, please."

Gilbert didn't hand it over but instead asked her, "What do you really want to eat?"

"It's okay…" Sherilyn paused, then chuckled, "Sophia went through the trouble of making this, I'll eat it."

But Gilbert insisted, "I asked what you want to eat?"

Seeing her nearly frown in confusion, he added with a smile, "Don't worry about Sophia, I'll make it."

"You?"

Sherilyn was taken aback, belching in surprise, "Uh!"

Really?

She had known him for ten years and was unaware that he could cook.

"You can cook?"

"Who do you think you're talking to?" Gilbert feigned offense, giving her a mock glare, "Just because I haven't had the chance to cook doesn't mean I can't. Tell me, what do you want?"

"Umm…"

Sherilyn blinked, telling the truth, "Chicken noodle soup."

But Sherilyn's curiosity had taken over, and she wasn't in a hurry anymore. She watched him, resting her chin in her hands, quietly waiting.

Half an hour later, Gilbert placed a steaming bowl in front of her.

With a slight smile, he cautioned, "Eat up, but be careful, it's hot."

"Okay."

Sherilyn adjusted the bowl and took a spoonful of soup, tasting it cautiously.

"How is it?" Gilbert awaited her verdict with bated breath.

"Wow!"

Sherilyn looked up, her eyes brightening as she gave him a thumbs up, "This is really good!"

"Right?"

Gilbert sighed in relief and pulled up a chair to sit next to her.

"It's been years since I've cooked. Luckily, I haven't lost my touch."

Years since he'd cooked...?

Sherilyn was momentarily startled, then remembered, he had joined the Johnson family in his teens. What kind of life had he led before that?

"Back when I was..."
