Miranda leaned in. “You think he might back out?”

Mila nodded.

That was exactly it. The anxiety that kept her up at night had only grown since that night in the mountains. She just couldn’t relax. If she was honest, Lysander had never played by the rules when it came to her—he was unpredictable and impossible to reason with.

She was afraid something would go wrong again.

But then, the prospect of finally holding her divorce papers in just thirty days was almost too tempting to give up. She’d waited so long for this moment.

She just couldn’t let it go.

Miranda seemed to see right through her and sighed, caught up in the same dilemma. “It really is a tough call.”

“Think about it. Sure, Lysander might go back on his word. But he might not. Even if he does, what’s the worst that happens? You’d just end up in the same situation as last time. Only this time, things are different—you can walk away whenever you want. You can wait this one out.”
