Emelie hesitated for a moment. It felt as though she had unexpectedly found stolen goods in her possession. She feared she might not explain herself clearly and could be mistaken for the culprit.

Judas replied firmly, “We’ve apprehended those two men. They confessed that you instructed them to harass Ms. Allen. Therefore, you must come in immediately for questioning.”

The police were no longer seeking her cooperation but were now demanding her presence for questioning. It felt entirely different from last night.

Emelie let out a sigh. She got out of bed, freshened up, changed clothes, packed bread and milk into her bag, and then left the room.
