Emelie was stunned for a moment and said softly, "It's all in the past. It's not that I dislike you, it's just that daughters aren't close with their dads when they grow up. It's very common."

It seemed like Ronan didn't hear what she said and continued to mutter, "But don't worry, I won't hurt you again. They're here again, but I swear I'll protect you this time. Even if it costs me my life."

Emelie stopped, feeling that something was off about what he said. She frowned and asked, "What are you talking about, Dad?"

Once they reached the end of the lane, the cab was already waiting there.

Emelie massaged the bridge of her nose and smiled. "It's so nice to have a friend who's a professional to work for me even during her holidays. I'll take you out for a meal tomorrow as a reward for working overtime."

"Probably not tomorrow. I just left the hotel and am heading to the airport. One of the pieces of evidence is located in Greenhill City and I have to make sure it sticks."

Emelie looked at the time. It was almost 10 pm, which meant she was rushing for the last flight. "We're not in a rush, so you can take the flight tomorrow, maybe? You're going to arrive in the wee hours and it isn't safe."

Ashley was half asleep in her ward when she suddenly felt someone touching her forehead.

She was somewhat alert because she had just been attacked. She opened her eyes and saw Elias sitting by her bed.

Ashley asked, "Why are you here?"

"I heard that your briefcase was stolen. I took the earliest flight over," Elias said with a dark expression.

"Is this because of the case between Ms. Hoven and the Allen family? Forget about her. She doesn't own you. Why are you putting your life at risk for her?"

"If you have nothing nice to say, then shut it." Ashley pushed his hand away and sat up straight.

"In a professional capacity, she's my client. It's normal for me to work on her case. Informally, Emelie's my friend. I should help her when she's in trouble."

When Elias saw how sick and tired Ashley was, all he thought was those were not good excuses.

"She does not deserve your help. Look at how Will is treating her. She got into a fight with him again because she keeps getting into trouble. Will is so angry that she has fired Ms. Jones. He only has two secretaries left, and he's going to get even busier now. He is going to get burnt out eventually."
