Emelie sat in front of the vanity, dressed in a beige slip dress and a matching robe with frayed edges. Her makeup was already done.

Ashley stood nearby, watching as the stylist put the finishing touches on Emelie's hair. Her eyes gleamed with admiration.

Emelie smiled and asked, "How do I look?"

Without hesitation, Ashley responded, "You look absolutely stunning."

Emelie chuckled. "I don't usually trust compliments, but when the beautiful Ashley says it, I believe it."

Emelie had to hold her head still, so she spoke to Ashley while looking in the mirror. "You won’t believe this, but I’ve been sitting here for makeup since a little after four this morning, and the wedding isn’t until nine. I feel like I could’ve slept in for another hour. Feels like such a waste of time."

The makeup artist looked puzzled. Was this really how a powerful woman thought? She was so focused on efficiency, even on her wedding day.

Ashley, still watching Emelie's reflection, noticed a rare softness in her expression. Whether it was the makeup or genuine happiness, Emelie seemed gentler than usual today.

Was she truly looking forward to the wedding?

Ashley was feeling conflicted, but she said, "I know what you mean. I was up at dawn for my wedding makeup too, but I used the extra time to get some work done. By the time the ceremony started, I'd already wrapped up a task."

The makeup artist blinked in astonishment. Were all successful women like this?

Emelie smiled. "It's a shame that we weren't closer back then. I wasn't able to make it to your wedding."

Ashley replied with a shrug, "Don't worry, I'll be sure to invite you to my second wedding."

The makeup artist was bewildered.

Mona walked in just in time to hear the end of the conversation.

"Why are you talking about second marriages on a day like today? If the elders hear, you'll be in for a beating!" She was exasperated.

Emelie and Ashley exchanged a playful glance, struggling to stifle their laughter. It was all in good fun, of course.

Soon, Emelie's hairdo was done. Then, Mona and Ashley assisted her into her wedding dress.

Emelie motioned toward a long oval table in the corner. "Everything you've given me is over there. There's so much. It's more than enough."

The table was covered with lavish gifts. Each opened box revealed either a high-end jewelry set or a vintage ornament, all of them priceless.

Yennifer walked over. "This one is different. Look."

She opened the small box she was holding to reveal a pair of exquisitely crafted gold bracelets, studded with vibrant gemstones. They were clearly ancient, perhaps something that belonged to royalty.

"These bracelets are a family heirloom from the Pierce family," Yennifer explained softly. "When their assets were seized, these were auctioned off. The buyer remained anonymous, and I only tracked them down after 20 years.

She continued, "The person who bought them wasn't short on money. She simply liked them and refused to sell them back to me.

"I visited her often over the past few months, building a relationship with her family, but she still wouldn't part with them.

"I had nearly given up hope. But last night, out of the blue, she sent the bracelets to me."
