A very familiar darkness makes itself known inside of him. The very same one that ate away at my soul little by little after losing Darren. The difference between us is that I didn’t have anyone to push it back until it was too late.. 

The consequences of my actions are staring back at me. This has to be the part of him that speaks out to me the most because there is not a single ounce of remorse in me who feels guilty about doing this to him. At least, not anymore. 

The King who had never known love has imprinted every bit of himself into the one thing that he shouldn’t have. Crystal and I infected every part of him. I’ve taken it all without meaning to. Ruined a perfectly good monster. I trace the scar I left on his face and smile. It feels like a lifetime ago, but in a relatively short amount of time, I’ve grown used to calling him mine even when I didn’t want to accept it. 

My skin breaks out in goosebumps as images of us flood my head. Some of him touching me, images of us laughing, images of me bullying his brother and the other task force recruits, and few sneaky ones of me speaking to his mother when I go visit her.

“Yeah, well. I changed my mind,” his claw rips through the front of my bra. I meant in general. Not just this. 

Before we can get any further, my phone starts to ring. The tornado warning siren blares and I groan because that’s the emergency phone I gave Jordan. The King growls when I push him away and move to find my phone. It’s among the all the broken shit on the floor,

“The vampire is here looking for the King. 

“Which one?” 

The old fucking asshole,” he says quietly. “We have casualties. I have Natalie with me and the twins. James and Silas are dealing with something in Nova,” 

“We’re on our way,” I toss my phone to the King and run into my walk–in closet. 

I start taking clothes off the racks and weapons. 

“What is going on?” he asks changing his shirt. I didn’t realize I had ripped it up. 

“Vampires. Jordan said there are casualties,” 

“You’re going to need these,” the wall lights up when my father’s voice blares through the speakers. “Why are the vampires on you!” 

“I want Lilith in charge of the covens, Lanswer. He’s going to figure it out one way or another. 

“We placed the vampire king in his position,” he counters. 

“Yeah, well, he’s a piece of shit and he’s not going to make it off our territory if he fucking killed someone in our house!” 

Lunderstand you’re upset, but you have to remember that there is a reason why-” 

“He fucking broke into our house,” I shout as I stuff the UV light tags into my pockets. “Until Lilith is the Vampire Queen I am going to kill any and all vampires on our territory. Fuck you and all your reasons why, asshole!” 

The King holds the door open for me as the two of us leave. I take his keys off the wall by the entrance and he doesn’t stop me. We make it to the Eastern border in record time. I park the car and turn to look at him as I load up my weapon.

“What will this do to one of us?” 

“Nothing we can’t reverse. Try not to hit one of us though, they hirt. “You gave Lilith the means to destroy him. I was looking for a more diplomatic resolution that involved them killing one another and leaving us the fuck out of it, but you just had to get all sappy.” 

“Baby, you were thinking about hunting down a ghost. The wrong one I might add. This whole time it was your father. This one is on you,” 

“Twenty–five percent, I negotiate. The rest is on you,” 

“Fifty–fifty and loser has to tell Violetta that we’re going to have to split Wolfe Inc. down the middle once we Lockwood Enterprises,” he shrugs. 

“Most kills takes the vampire?”

Jordan has been spending time with that biker man designing hy house in Scotland, and I’m hoping the Magique dispute is settled with him winning somehow. He’s gotten us everything we’ve asked for. “You’re friends with Arsenial Barnes?” I scoff. “I guess he’s not the worst but definitely not the best. Do better. Vince is a sweetheart and he has really good taste in everything. He’s also not a troublemaker like Arsenial fucking Barnes,” 

“Right, it’s just Violetta who is a class–A asshole,” he nods. 

“You can’t say that about her without insulting me as well, I turn around and tuck my assault rifle into position. 

“You’re a class–A legend. You’re one hundred percent entitled to be an asshole,” he says from behind me. “I’m going to aim for their throats. See how they like it,” 

I zone him out and focus on the area around us. The first vampire is walking around the back of the vanguard that stormed in here. There aren’t enough Lycans to watch the set perimeter all the way around. Not all of the buildings going up have been sold. James doesn’t think they all need to be guarded so on occasions like this, the guards are instructed to let them get to the main house so we can take care of the problems personally 

The King is still upset that I approved it. It makes sense, right now. We avoid property damage. There are no familids here yet and it takes the problem to us immediately. I also didn’t think anyone was stupid enough to take the bait.

Blood and guts leak out of his eyes and mouth as he falls to the ground dead.
