Back at the present, Esther glanced at his profile, suddenly embarrassed. "I'm sorry about that. It was truly an accident that I hit you in the face."

Finnegan smiled, not a trace of anger in his voice. "I know. I didn't blame you, did I?"

Esther muttered to herself silently. He said he didn't blame her but practically rolled his eyes to the heavens back then.

The atmosphere lightened after their conversation, and they sat at the reserved table. Finnegan glanced at the menu and ordered without asking Esther. To her surprise, almost all the food Finnegan ordered were her favorites.

Feeling touched, Esther said, "I never thought you'd remember my favorites."

Finnegan gave her a cool glance. "Not really. Is there anything you don't like to eat?"

When the food arrived, Esther, feeling internally peeved, focused on eating.

Noticing her mood, Finnegan smiled and ate his food without disturbing her. Once they were full, Finnegan looked at Esther and asked, "How are things between you and him?"

Esther, who had just been immersed in sadness, was suddenly snapped out of it by his question. "What do you mean?"

Esther sighed. "I don't feel good about it, but I don't want to disappoint him either."

"Disappoint him? This is your career. If you give it up to be with him, you won't be the woman he fell for anymore." Finnegan's smile, which he had maintained for so long, gradually turned into a frown.

"Yeah, James was so supportive of my career. How could he expect me to give up my dreams for this?" Esther's eyes lit up for a moment but then quickly dimmed again. "Although this is the case… never mind, I'll talk to him about it when I get back."

Finnegan watched her with eager eyes, like a puppy wanting to be close. He felt like he had to pat her on the head, and so he did.

But right when he did that, they heard a frosty voice ask, "What are you guys doing?"
