Adrian looked up, his eyes seemingly hopeless. "She lost her memory."

"Lost her memory?" Richard couldn't hide his shock.

"Yes, during our final test, the alarms in the lab went off, and the ceiling started falling apart. Pearl was running to escape when a piece of debris struck her head. After that, she couldn't remember anything. The doctor said it damaged a nerve in her brain."

Adrian sighed deeply before adding, "Then, a man came to the hospital with some others and took her away. They left me behind for some reason, so I had to return here alone."

Richard, overwhelmed with impatience, lashed out with a kick. "I told you to keep her safe. Is this your idea of protection?"

Adrian accepted the rebuke silently, acknowledging his failure. "It's my fault. I deserve to be punished."

"What good will punishment do now?" Richard said, trying to stay calm despite his anger. "I'm going over there."

Adrian simply nodded.

That night, Richard flew there only to find both Pearl and Simon missing.

Four years later.

A large aquarium stood by a sunny window.

"That's cringy," she laughed, cutting the conversation short to avoid his flattery.

The man could tell Pearl wasn't interested, so he changed the subject. "What should we have for dinner? Fuancer?"

All Pearl could think about was her son. "I want to see Darius."

"Sure," he said, smiling warmly. "I'll leave work early today so we can go see him together."

Pearl knew this man was nice for a reason, but seeing how much he cared still touched her heart. He was wonderful to both her and her son.

Recalling a night when Darius had woken from a nightmare, wanting his dad, Pearl considered this man thoughtfully, but…
