What mattered to Richard now was finding a way to help Pearl regain her memories, hoping this would bring back her feelings for him.

Upon hearing that he was about to have a father, Darius perked up. "How can I help?"

"Just talk about me to your mom," Richard suggested. "Say good things."

"So, you want me to make things sound better than they are?" Darius sneered. Was Richard expecting him to do that without him doing anything?

"No, I'll still do my part," Richard assured him. "But it would help if you could speak positively about me."

Darius nodded, though he seemed reluctant. "And then?"

"That's all I need from you. I'll handle the rest."

It seemed simple enough.

However, Richard had another concern. "I'm curious about the relationship between you, your mom, and Mister Luther. How is he with you and your mom?" He was worried Luther might have done something terrible to them.

To Richard's surprise, Darius smiled warmly. "Mister Luther has been great. He's taken care of us for years. I even wished he was my dad…"

"He's really been good to you?" Richard frowned, troubled by the thought of another man caring for his family. Given Luther's character, believing he would do anything good was hard.

"You want him as your dad?" Richard gritted his teeth, feeling like his son needed a lesson.

Darius started to sweat. "No, I didn't mean—"

Before Darius could explain, the classroom door suddenly swung open.

Pearl stood there, looking upset, while Richard faced Darius, his expression fierce. Richard usually had a pleasant face, but now his scowl was intimidating.

Pearl rushed over, stepping between them, and confronted Richard. "What are you doing?"
