She hurried to Darius, embraced him, and gently caressed his face. "How are you feeling, Darius? Does it still hurt?"

When Darius saw his mother, he started crying. "I miss you so much, Mom. I'm really scared she'll hurt me again. She hit me with a rock and kicked me…"

Each word from Darius made Pearl's heart ache more, turning her sadness into deep anger towards Nina.

She took off her jacket, draped it around Darius, and gently set him on the ground before she turned to confront Nina, who seemed to have lost her senses. "Nina Crawford. How could you treat my son so cruelly?"

Nina couldn't care less about her. She was just another woman. What could she do to her?" Why not? You and your son just want our family's money. I'm just doing what's right and punishing you."

Pearl's eyes filled with intense anger. "I've never hated anyone before, but I can't forgive you after what you've done to my son. I don't care if you're depressed, you will face consequences!"

Pearl quickly moved closer and slapped Nina before she could react. "This is for my son."

Unable to accept she was the one being punished, she ended up glaring at Pearl and Darius with hatred. "They're taking too much space in your heart, that's why you hate me, right? You'll love me again if they don't exist anymore, won't you?"
