Esther looked up absent-mindedly. "What did I do? I was just a bit closer to the actors. Plus, it's Pearl's company, not yours. Why do you act like I've hurt your workers?"

James replied calmly, "I helped you sort out those issues."

Esther smiled brightly. "Well, thank you. You're such a nice guy."

"So, you admit I helped you. Shouldn't you invite me to dinner at your place as a thank you?"

Esther's smile faded. She hadn't expected him to play that card. "Well, you got me!"

She reluctantly got out of the car and said, "Let's go. Where's your car? I'll go with you now."

Esther promised herself it was the last time. She would talk to Agnes that night and wouldn't let him take her home casually again.

But James stayed put.

Esther tugged at his sleeve. She had to look up at him because he was taller. "Why aren't we going? I said I'll go with you."

James grinned shamelessly. "I didn't bring my car."

Esther was annoyed. "James, you want to get a girl, but you didn't drive?"

James eyed Esther's bright pink sports car. "You have a car, right? You can drive me."

"Why should I be your driver when you need a favor?"

She quickly found a parking spot and stormed into the house without waiting for James.

Once inside, she called out, "Aunt Agnes, I'm here!"

Agnes was cooking. She beamed and came out of the kitchen. "Here you are, Este! I made your favorite today. Wasn't the pork a bit salty yesterday? I used less salt today. You'll love it! If it's good, I can make it every day!"

Esther was about to tell Agnes this was her last visit when James entered the house.

He gave Esther a knowing smile. "Esther said she'd like fish and chips tomorrow."

Esther was stunned. She hadn't mentioned wanting to come back the next day for fish and chips.
