Finnegan expected this person, so he wasn't surprised to see James appear. He glanced at his watch and teased, "You're late."

James looked at him calmly. "You don't get to say if I'm late or not. I'm here now, so you can go."

"We're on a date, so I'll be the one taking her home. What do you mean by saying I can leave?" Finnegan knew that Esther was using him to make James jealous. From his earlier chat with Esther, he felt no need to leave.

James's face darkened. "You were on a date?"

"Yes. As you can see, she brought me here." Finnegan lifted his hand, which was holding Esther's, showing it to James.

James took a deep breath to stay calm. "I know you were on a blind date."

"You have good intel."

James put his hands in his pockets, convinced Finnegan was lying. "I know she wouldn't go on a blind date."

Finnegan was confused. "Why does that matter? We met after a long time, and she asked me out. What's the problem?"

Finnegan then picked up Esther and gestured for James to move. "I'm taking her home."

James didn't move at first. After a tense moment, Finnegan added, "Esther's dad arranged this date."

Her father was behind the blind date and cared about her safety. Realizing this, James clenched his fist but stepped aside.

"Thanks." Finnegan smiled and left with Esther in his arms.
