Jasper said, "You don't have to marry him, but it might be time to settle down, and he seems like a good match. I know his father too…"

"I don't want to get married!"

The room fell silent.

Samantha sighed and went to her room. Jasper softened his voice, "Can you tell me why you don't want to get married?"

Esther grabbed a pillow and buried her face in it as tears seeped into the fabric. "There's no specific reason. I just don't want to marry and I'm not interested in dating anyone right now."

Jasper was skeptical. "If you weren't interested, you wouldn't still be thinking about James."

"He's part of my past now, Dad."

"I know. We just hope someone new could help you move past your sadness."

They all noticed how Esther had changed since her breakup.

Jasper had liked James and thought he would take good care of Esther, so he was happy when they got engaged. But then James got sick, and it led to their breakup. Despite Esther's pleas, they ended things and went their separate ways.
