"Of course I will. But you're the one who never wanted to marry me," James coaxed Esther like a child.

"Who said I didn't want to marry you? If it weren't for what you did, of course I'd want to marry you! Do you have any idea what I went through?" Esther's voice almost broke, sounding particularly heart-wrenching.

James's voice softened, "Can you tell me what happened to you back then?"

"I'm not telling you. If I tell you, you'll despise me…" Esther sobbed. "You're just irresponsible. If you were not, you wouldn't have abandoned me so easily…"

After listening for a while, Esther didn't hear anything significant from the recording. "But this doesn't prove anything."

James took a deep breath and asked her, "Are you sure you want me to play it here and let everyone listen to how you forced me to marry you?"

"What's there to be embarrassed about? We're all family here," the woman beside her said, smiling.

The term' family' was jarring. Esther glanced at James and then at the woman, feeling uncomfortable. "But you already have a girlfriend now. Why are you still here?"

Esther assumed that the woman was his lover. After all, they seemed to be a perfect match, even having an exceptional tacit understanding. In comparison, Esther felt more like an outsider.

"Who told you I'm his girlfriend?" The woman smiled helplessly. "Are you overthinking it? Or are you jealous?"

"Sorry about that. I just assumed things and offended you both. I truly apologize."

Janet didn't mind at all. She smiled and gently rubbed Esther's face. "It's okay. I can see that you genuinely care for my nephew."

Esther rolled her eyes. "Who even likes him?"

"If you don't like him, why did you react so strongly after finding out about my relationship with him?"

Esther was rendered speechless.
