"Alright sweetheart I love you too, see you later," I said into the receiver, before hanging up the phone. Almost instantly a buzz on my line came through.

Scoffing I held the button down to talk. "Speak."

"Warden Kurt, sorry to disturb you but an unexpected bus of transferred inmates has just arrived, shall I set them up in Block A or Block C?" Officer Deirdre said in her raspy, one-too-many cigarettes laden tone.

I breathed out heavily, pressing the button down again. "Block C should accommodate them, but first send em' my way if you would Deirdre, I need a bit more information on our new..guests."

I sat back in my chair, hands folded as I waited for the inmates to come in. A few minutes later a hard knock sounded at the door and Officer Deirdre opened my office door ushering a group of about 10 women in. I nodded thanks to her and she left to wait outside.

"So ladies, maybe one of you can tell me where you're being transferred from?"

"Rockville," a curvy older woman said.

"And any particular reason the lot of you were on that bus I should know about? I mean I'll have all your files soon but for now, we can be candid with each other, no?"

"It was nothing more than a shit hole that ran out of room but from what I can see, this place ain't much better"
