As Jared carried Catalina on his back, the subtle fragrance of her drifted into his nostrils endlessly. At the same time, the softness he sensed from her against his back made him restless.

Catalina was sprawled on his back. A slight smirk curved her lips, and she lightly pressed her palm against the nape of his neck.

In an instant, the word Lina surprisingly appeared on the man’s neck in dark red.

“What are you doing, Ms. Lantz?” Jared asked with a hint of puzzlement.

“Oh, nothing. I’m fine now, so just put me down!” Catalina fibbed, stifling a giggle.

“What?”

Jared was struck speechless. But still, he put her down.

Catalina flashed him a smile before cheerfully striding ahead.

Meanwhile, Jared wore a look of utter bewilderment. He couldn’t comprehend why she was laughing, especially since her laughter seemed a tad peculiar.

Recalling how she had suddenly pressed his neck just a moment ago, he hurriedly touched the spot but found nothing out of the ordinary.

What on earth did she do?

He was momentarily dumbfounded.

Nonetheless, he still went after her.

Skeletal remains were scattered all over the ground, resulting in cracking sounds when one stepped on them. Yet, it seemed that Catalina was no longer afraid.

Even after the two of them had walked a distance, they realized that there was still no one else in sight. I wonder where the others had fallen!

However, a house appeared right ahead of them.

It wasn’t made of bricks and stones but seemed more like it was constructed in thin air because it was translucent and also contorted alongside the distortions in the void.

“Could we be under an illusion spell?” Catalina mused, her brows furrowing upon seeing the house that had suddenly materialized.

Though she hadn’t known him for long, the sense of security he gave her was irreplaceable by anyone else.

When the two of them arrived in front of the illusory house, the door surprisingly opened slowly.

At that, they were both rather perplexed.

But having already come that far, Jared steeled himself and walked in, with Catalina following closely behind.

Despite both their capabilities being suppressed, the fact that they still dared to enter the house proved that they indeed had a bit of courage.

No sooner had they stepped in than the door behind them abruptly slammed shut. On the heels of that, the scene before their eyes changed.

A main hall appeared before them, an imposing sight that was distinctly different from the small house they had just seen.

A dozen or so oddly shaped stone beast statues lined both sides of it neatly. Each of them had a flame burning in its mouth, illuminating the main hall brightly.

In the heart of the space sat a disheveled man with his back against Jared and Catalina.
