"How should I know? Anyway, I already passed on your message." The security guard also felt annoyed.
"Do it again," Harold said with a darkened expression.
Though the guard was feeling fed up, he still relayed the message again.
This time, the Pitts and the security guard waited for a long time, but the superior still did not respond.
Michelle was so anxious that she burst into tears on the spot. "Honey, what do we do now?"
"Be quiet already!" Stephen snapped, feeling a headache coming on.
But when he saw people looking at him—and some even recording him—Stephen felt his headache worsen. He leaned in and whispered something to Daniel, who then nodded.
Then, Daniel turned to the surrounding crowd who were filming and said, "We hope you'll delete any videos you've taken of our family. If we find any footage of us has been uploaded online, we will pursue legal action."
The crowd scoffed when they heard that.
"They lied about Demi being their daughter, and now they're threatening people?"
"They should've thought of the consequences before they acted."
"Absolutely shameless. They hurt her, and then pretended she was their daughter to save their pride."
"They keep saying it's a misunderstanding, yet never give any explanation."
The Pitts listened to the harsh comments. They were furious but unable to talk back.
"That's it. We're not staying here anymore. Let's go home! Whatever happens, happens!" Stephen, who had never been so humiliated in his life, waved his hand in frustration and stormed off through the crowd.
The rest of the Pitts quickly followed after him.
In the car on the way home, they still couldn't resist checking their phones to see what kind of news coverage had come out in the end.
…
Meanwhile, back at the press conference venue, Maria and the others briefly introduced the songs they were about to release and sang a few lines.
After each performance, the reporters erupted in thunderous applause.
"I didn't expect to get this kind of bonus out of the trip."
"Haha! My colleague's going to regret not coming—she's a huge fan of Connor and Demi, especially her music. If she knew Connor was singing one of Demi's songs, she'd probably come even if it were acid!"
During the interludes between songs, reporters murmured and chatted among themselves.
Daniel tried to placate Robert and said, "Robert, we're all a bit tired today. Let's not talk about it now. We'll explain everything to you in a couple of days."
It was because they truly didn't know how to explain it to Robert—how much to tell, and how much to hold back.
At the very least, they had to wait and see the reporters' articles before making a decision.
Robert's expression turned stormy instantly. "So basically, you're all treating me like an outsider, right?"
After saying that, Robert grabbed his coat and stormed out the door. He had had enough of feeling his frustration pile up and be left out during this whole ordeal!
"Robert…" Thomas quickly chased after him.
Thomas caught up to him in the yard.
"Robert, don't do this. Come back with me. Mom and Dad are both exhausted today," Thomas said in a low voice, trying to reason with him.
"Why won't any of you tell me anything?" Robert looked at Thomas with red-rimmed eyes and an accusatory gaze.
"You're still young. We just wanted you to focus on your studies," Thomas replied softly.
Robert suddenly raised his voice. "You really think I can still focus on studying after all this?"
