Michael took me as his plus-one to a charity auction hosted by the Harrison family.

The moment we walked in, I spotted Benjamin and Jessica.

In just half a year, Benjamin had rebranded himself as some big-shot businessman.

And somehow, Jessica had wormed her way back into his life.

Mike Harrison was too sick to show up, which meant Lucas and Michael were the stars of the evening.

Michael was swarmed by people eager to schmooze.

Lucas, though, was nowhere in sight.

Scanning the room, I caught a glimpse of Jessica disappearing around the staircase.

I remembered Michael's sneer a few days ago when he told me how Jessica had once stripped naked in front of Lucas, desperate to get into his bed.

Their movements got bolder.

"You knew about Jessica and Lucas, didn't you?"

Benjamin looked at me, his emotions unreadable.

"Sophia, I swear, I messed up. Please, forgive me."

"I—I was weak. She came onto me."

"It was just a mistake—one every guy makes."

"I swear, if you give me another chance, we can start over."

I said nothing.

He mistook my silence for hesitation and grabbed my hand, his voice growing desperate.

"I'm working for Lucas now. I'm making real money, Sophia."

"I even bought a house."

"I can finally give you the life you've always wanted."

I yanked my hand away, my voice ice-cold.

"When did I ever say I wanted that life?"

"This is what you wanted, Benjamin."
