Chloe didn't want her best friend to find out about her illness.

"Candy came over specifically to see you. You know how she is; she won't leave until she's seen you," Michael said.

Candy might even come barreling up here if she knew the truth.

Michael knew that if he went downstairs to explain, Candy might think he was deliberately keeping Chloe from her, which could make things worse.

Chloe's face darkened at his words. She knew Candy's personality all too well.

"So, can we keep this from her for now?"

Chloe wasn't entirely sure why she felt this way, but her instinct was to shield Candy and everyone else from the news.

Michael, Admas, and James would eventually find out because they were around, but Candy... she really wanted to keep it a secret from her.

Michael reached out and gently gathered her disheveled hair into a loose, comforting style. "Alright, I promise. We won't say anything to her yet."

With a renewed resolve, Chloe freshened up, washing her face and changing clothes before heading downstairs.

As she passed the vanity, she noticed her pale reflection. After a moment's hesitation, she applied a touch of lipstick to add some color to her face.

If it weren't for the medication she had to take at specific times every day, Chloe might have considered taking it early just to get through the day with Candy.

She slipped her pills into her bag and followed Michael downstairs.

Candy was still bickering with James when Chloe came into view. Her eyes lit up when she saw Chloe. "Chloe, you need to handle this guy. He says he wants to send me off to the Mythica!"

The Mythica—just the thought of it made Candy shudder.

James, catching Chloe's arrival, wisely chose to zip his lip and put his hands up in surrender.

Chloe smiled and took a seat next to Candy, keeping a safe distance. "What brings you over today?"

Candy didn't pick up on any underlying issues. "Wesley's doing better, so I'm free to hang out. Did you see the text I sent? Why didn't you reply?"

"Sounds good!"

As Candy prepared to leave with Chloe, Michael and James exchanged uneasy glances.

"Chloe, I think I should go with you guys," Michael said, his concern evident.

Before Chloe could respond, Candy interjected, "Today's a girls' day out. No room for you guys! If you tag along, you'll ruin my mood."

Chloe gave James and Michael an apologetic smile. "I'll go with Candy. I'll be careful."

Candy, thinking Chloe was worried about her baby, patted Chloe's stomach reassuringly.

"Don't worry. I will take good care of this little one. No harm will come to him, I promise!"

Chloe felt Candy's touch and wanted to pull away, but she knew doing so might raise suspicion. She stood stiffly, trying to remain calm.

Once the two had left, James' smile faded as he turned to Michael. "Have we found William's brother yet?"
