"It's fine. I'm used to it."

The words came out automatically, the forced smile settling on my lips before I even realized it was there.

Ethan looked like he wanted to say more, but I cut him off, glancing at the bandages on his face.

"Does it hurt?"

He hesitated, then cleared his throat, looking almost embarrassed.

"Doctor says there might be some scarring."

"Even with surgery, it won't be the same."

"But whatever. I don't care. A guy like me doesn't need a perfect face."

Then his eyes widened. "Your hand—"

I flinched, finally noticing the small cut on my finger, a thin line of blood forming.

"It's nothing," I muttered, quickly wiping it away.
