Love Story - Chapter 5
I didn't sleep all night.
The next morning, Nico came back bleary-eyed, bringing a bowl of porridge.
"Honey, I bought you your favorite cream of mushroom soup. Be a good girl and eat up, I'm going to catch up on some sleep."
This restaurant was so popular, you'd have to queue for at least an hour.
He tried to come over and kiss me, but I dodged.
"You stink," I said I forced a smile, and he didn't notice anything unusual. He ruffled my hair and went into the bedroom.
Once he was sound asleep, I quietly unlocked his phone. Last night, I had already set his calls to automatically record.
There were two new recordings on the phone.
In the first one, a crisp female voice came through:
"Hello? You're out? Did that woman at your home let you go?"
"Stop talking nonsense. The usual place, Moon Hotel room 1108.
Come down when you're ready."
Then came a string of coquettish laughter:
"Alright, I just bought a new set of lingerie to wear for you.
Looking forward to it?"
The two laughed lightly, and after a while, Nico spoke:
"I can't handle her at all."
"Emily is over thirty now. Being with her every day, I can't get excited."
My heart skipped a beat, then ached.
I thought after a night of processing, I would be calm enough, but these two recordings nearly knocked me down.
So, all his friends knew about Violet's existence, and only I was kept in the dark like a fool.
And him, how could he talk about me so crudely in front of his friends?
I quickly pulled myself together and transferred these two recordings to my computer, then went to the garage and copied all the records from the car's dash cam.
