While Madison and Sebastian bickered, Miranda found the scene amusing. “Alright, that’s enough, I cook tonight, and you two can be my assistants.” 

With that settled, neither Sebastian nor Madison objected. 

They knew Miranda was meticulous in her research, but they hadn’t expected her to be so particular in the kitchen. She insisted on washing the meat and vegetables separately and taught them to spot leafy greens that looked fresh but overmature. 

Miranda even showed them the proper way to slice meat–whether to cut across or with the grain–and how to read the texture of the meat. To her, every detail mattered, 

Sebastian and Madison had never lifted a finger in the kitchen at home, but they didn’t seem to mind being ordered around. Everything felt like a new adventure, as though they were exploring uncharted territory. 

Two hours later, dinner was finally ready. 

Madison stood with her hands on her hips, gazing at the sumptuous meal before her with a faint, self- satisfied smile. “Pretty impressive, huh? I helped make this whole spread.” 

She thought about posting it on her social media account to show off. So, she quickly pulled out her phone and snapped a series of photos from different angles. 

As soon as she posted, Mason was the first to hit “like“. Soon, the rest of her relatives joined in with likes and comments. Madison was thrilled upon seeing that. 

Seeing the pride on her face, Sebastian couldn’t help but smile. 

Two days later, Miranda’s foot had healed. She could move freely again without a care. 

She brought the Canavalia seeds to school and handed them to her professor. Her team eamed 20 points for being the only group to find a rare plant. 

The other teams either found nothing or collected the wrong seed. As for the pod Paul had given her, Miranda decided to keep it for herself. 

Once that was settled, her life returned to the usual routine–school, the lab, and home. 

Although the lab was on the subway line, each trip took over an hour. With the last train leaving early, she often had to rely on cabs to get home, but even that wasn’t always a guarantee. 

Miranda started thinking about getting a car to reduce travel time. She didn’t need anything fancy or a specific brand–just something reliable to get her from point A to point B. 

The following day, she was surprised to have a car delivered to her doorstep. 

“Are you Ms. Miranda Sutton? I’m Gage Callahan, a salesperson from Golden Ridge Motors on Liberty Street. Someone ordered a car for you, and it just parked just around the corner. Could you come down to sign the delivery forms so I can hand over the keys and the necessary documents?”

The man was dressed in a sharp black suit. He smiled politely as he introduced himself and handed Miranda his business card. 

She kept one hand on the doorknob, cracking the door just enough to peek through. 

A car that showed up out of the blue would excite anyone or at least make them wonder if it was a dream. But she remained unfazed, and her face was devoid of joy. “Someone ordered a car for me? Who was it?” 

Gage smiled politely and replied, “I’m sorry, but we can’t disclose that due to customer privacy.”
