“Haven’t you heard of that song lyric? No one forgets the one that got away. That’s just how people are. It’s human nature to want what you can’t have. Anyway, you guys have fun. I’m out of here,” Zach said. 

“No, wait… You just got here, and now you’re leaving?” 

Zach chuckled. “Winter suddenly got off work early, so I’m going to pick her up.” 

Calvin’s gaze turned suspicious. “Are you seriously telling me you’re not really in love with her?” 

Zach defended himself, “What do you know? I’m just being committed to my role. It’s perfectly normal for a boyfriend to pick his girlfriend up after work. If I can’t even do that, how can I convince my family we’re seriously dating with marriage in mind? 

“Oh, I’m going to be late. I’m off, don’t bother seeing me out!”

Calvin had a confused look on his handsome face. Why was everyone acting possessed lately?

Sam said, “Grandma specifically reminded me to bring these things for you. There’s gourmet honey, foie gras, and truffles… This bag is some tea from Grandpa. Several of these varieties are his treasures. 

“Oh, I also noticed you liked the end table in the bedroom. I had someone make a smaller version that will fit in your current place. It should be delivered after the New Year. Then, there’s this and that…”

“I’ve already pared down the gifts. There was even more before this.” 

Miranda was speechless at the revelation.
