Isabel glanced at Samuel before turning back to chat with Yvette. 

“Are you sure you should go with the baby on the way? Isabel asked.

Isabel froze. 

She turned to face Samuel, her brow furrowing. “Don’t talk nonsense. The class president and I are just old friends. The only reason I didn’t tell Xander was because I didn’t want him to get jealous. You know how he #is—he’d get jealous over nothing. And by the way, you’d better not say anything to him.” 

“So, you want me to keep it a secret? Does that mean you have something going on with the class president?” Samuel teased. 

Isabel shot him a look, clearly frustrated. 

Xander and Samuel are truly brothers–they both have an annoying habit of jumping to conclusions. 

“I’m telling you, there’s nothing going on between me and the class president. If you tell Xander and he makes a big deal out of it, that’s on you.” 

Samuel was left speechless. 

He stared at her blankly, realizing she had succeeded in shifting the blame to him. 

The next evening, Isabel quickly applied some makeup and left the house. 

By the time Xander returned, she was already gone. 

“Where is she?” he asked. 

Samuel gave a quick glance toward Isabel’s room, curling his lips in irritation.

“What?” Xander asked, raising an eyebrow at Samuel, dearly confused.

Nander watched him with narrowed eyes as he processed what Samuel had just said.

Samuel froze. He hadn’t expected Xander to catch on so fast. 

This is all Isabel’s fault. She didn’t have to hide the reunion from Xander, but she chose to, and now I’m the one who has to cover for her. 

Samuel sighed and rubbed the back of his neck. 

“Yesterday, I overheard her talking about it on the phone.” 

“Then why didn’t you tell me?” Xander asked. 

Samuel scratched his neck again, debating whether to keep up the lie. 

“Samuel.” Xander said his name slowly, almost like a warning. 

Samuel realized his brother wasn’t going to let it slide, and he knew it was time to tell the truth. 

Samuel didn’t hesitate any longer and shared everything he had overheard with Xander. 

“Hello?” Xander’s voice came through as soon as he dialed Isabel’s number. 

Isabel had just reached the restaurant for the reunion when Xander’s call came through. 

As soon as she saw his name on the screen, Isabel immediately realized he must have found out about the gathering. 

She didn’t really need to keep it from him, but Xander had a tendency to become overly protective. When he got jealous, it was like nothing else mattered. Each time, it felt like he was smothering her with his intensity.
