ROSE
I woke up to the most delicious smell of eggs, cheese, vegetables, and some meat cooking. I got up and got dressed before I walked downstairs. I could hear Massimo and Pippa, but I could also hear another voice and see an older man sitting at the table and eating.
“Ah, Rose. Good morning. I hope you had a nice sleep,” Pippa says, and the two men greet me as well.
“Good morning. I slept very well, thank you. Something smells delicious.” I say and smile at her.
“Sit down; I will get you some Frittata,” she says and smiles as I sit down.
“Rose, this is my father, Mate. He was the right hand and Beta to our old Alpha,” Massimo says and looks at his dad.
“Hello Princess, I remember when your dad called Antonio asking for help. A friend of your father had family in Antonio’s territory. After a good talk, they made a deal. Your dad would provide help at any time Alpha Antonio asked for it. And the woman Mia would be denied to leave, for as long as it was needed, to protect you, his little daughter.” Mateo said as I ate and listened to what he told me.
“Did you know her well?” I ask him, and he looks at me for a little.
“I didn’t have much interaction with her myself. But she was around, and it was not always a good thing.” Mateo says.
“Why?” I ask.
“She always tried getting close to the Alpha, and it didn’t matter to her that he was mated.” He says, and I sigh.
“Yeah, I sort of expected I would hear something like this. And let me say that anything you can tell me, please do. I know she is not a good person. I mean, she rejected me, her two-month-old baby.” I say, looking down.
“I never heard that,” Mateo says.
“My Dad asked that it wouldn’t become others' knowledge, even with what she did. He wanted to give her a fair chance at life. But yes, she rejected my Dad and then me, and it left me broken.” I say quietly.
“Is this why I don’t smell your wolf?” He asks, and I nod my head.
“Yes. It is. I do not have a wolf or a lycan like my Dad. My soul broke,” I told them, still not looking at them.
No one says anything, but I feel two soft hands on my shoulders. When I look up, I see Pippa standing behind me.
“Listen to me. The part of your soul that connects with a wolf spirit might be broken. But it does not mean that you are. You are not worth anything less just because you don’t have a wolf. And I am sure your Dad loves you just the same,” she says, and I get tears in my eyes.
“My dad’s second chance mate, his queen, my stepmother, who loves me as if she had given birth to me. Always say the same thing.” I say.
