He had to know that if he exposed my ties to the Roguelands I would do the same to him. Was that the plan? If he was going down anyway, did he intend to take me with him? 

But he had been released from custody. The king didn’t have anything on him that could stick. It would be self destructive of him to do something like this. 

No, it had to be something else. But what? 

A cold feeling flooded my chest. Could this have something to do with Sabrina’s recent appearance in the capital? 

It was the only explanation that made sense, but she didn’t have any scandalous secrets that she could expose. At least, not as far as I knew. 

I stood up with such force that my desk chair toppled over. I had to burn some of this energy or I was going to end up breaking something. I grabbed my coat and headed for the door. 

Ella POV 

“Are you sure?” I asked Elizabeth, my voice coming out far weaker than I expected. 

I was already off balance from what had happened yesterday with Archer, but this—this was almost too much to believe. “You have to be absolutely positive.” 

“I am,” she responded. “I checked with everyone. I even looked at the surveillance footage. It’s definitely her.” “But why?” I said in disbelief. “Why would Diana be meeting with your father?” 

“I have no idea,” Elizabeth said, sounding just as frustrated as I felt. 

“Are you sure she’s the one who’s been advising him on this matter? Is she the only one having these strange meetings?” 

“The only one I’ve found any proof of.” 

I stared at the screen, my mind whirling. If Diana was advising the king to act against us, there had to be a reason -but I couldn’t think of one. She’d always favored her other son, but to do something so blatantly against Alexander was shocking. 

“Ella,” Elizabeth asked hesitantly, “what is going on?” 

I wished I could tell her, but there was no way to explain everything without exposing not only my own secrets- but also Alexander’s. It wasn’t my place to do that. 

Besides, as much as I trusted Elizabeth, she was still the king’s daughter. She had an obligation to report anything concerning to him, and I couldn’t risk that. 

“I can’t tell you,” I answered truthfully. 

A long silence followed before I heard movement on the other end of the line. “Okay,” Elizabeth finally said. ” We’ll talk soon, then.“. 

The call ended. 

I stared at my phone, debating what to do next. 

I should call Alexander immediately. He needed to know if his mother was acting against us. But at the same time, 

I knew how tense his relationship with Diana was, and I didn’t want to add to that strain.
