Sophia raised her eyebrows slightly. The scar at the end of her eyebrows was stained with a hint of viciousness. "Help me?"

"You are a murderer. Moreover, you have been kicked out of the White family. Even if Charles likes you, the Harris family still won’t approve of your relationship!”

"The Harris family is sure to have a marriage alliance with the Jones family. If you’re still with Charles by then, you will be Charles' lover. When that happens, what would others say about you?" William said.

Sophia tugged at her lips. "It must be tough for you to think about these things, Mr. Jones. I thought your brain is just there to make you look taller!"

"Sophia White!" William did not know why she just could not recognize his good intentions.

"Must you scream? I'm lame, not deaf." Sophia stared at him coldly. "You said that you’re helping me to leave Charles for my own good? Or are you trying to get me to make way for Leah? Or are you perhaps still trying to get me to be with you?"

William's back was stiff and straight. He did not look into her eyes. "You just need to tell me whether you want to leave Charles or not!"

"Didn't you already know that I’m a person who’s thirsty for power and money, Mr. Jones?" Sophia said, "Now that I have finally gotten together with Charles, why should I rack my brains to think of a way to leave him? Do I look like a fool to you?"

Her answer turned William’s face livid. "If you stay with him, then you will just be a spurned lover in everyone’s eyes! A homewrecker! For the sake of money and power, don’t you care about a sense of propriety, justice, integrity, and honor anymore?!"

"When you get home, you should really ask Leah how she feels for not winning Charles’ heart even after doing things that are against her conscience.” Sophia looked up at him. This was still the same face. Nothing about this face had changed, yet it was just sickening to look at.

William’s gaze was like a nail as he stared fixedly at her with a complicated look on his face that was intermingled with an undisguised disappointment.

"That’s all, right?" His gaze might be able to make Sophia feel awful back then, but the same gaze could no longer make her feel anything anymore.

Perhaps he had hurled her so much harsh criticism that she was already used to it.

"How much money do you want? I can give it to you as long as it is within my capability!" William held her gaze. Almost every word he said was squeezed out of his throat.

Sophia laughed. "You can't give me what I want."

"Jones Group isn’t a small company, but it is nothing compared to Harris Corporation. Besides, Charles is now almost entirely in control of Harris Corporation. What about you? You can only take over when your dad steps down from the position as president in another ten or twenty years, right?"

The blue veins on William's forehead bulged. "Must you be such a mercenary gold digger?!"

"I have always been a person like that in your eyes, haven’t I?" Sophia said, "Oh, other than mercenary, there’s also cruel and unscrupulous."

William stared at her with a livid expression. He did not say a word for a very long time.

"Keep your words. In the future, you must give me a wide berth whenever I’m around." Sophia turned around and said as she walked towards the exit, "I don't want your mother, fiancée, and sister chasing after me calling me a vixen all day. Charles will get the wrong idea."

William clenched his fists tightly, his eyes full of pain.

It was not until Sophia was about to reach the door that he said wearily, "Drink the last two glasses of margarita before you leave."

"No. I can’t drink when I see your face." Sophia pulled the door open and walked out.

The moment the door closed, sunlight disappeared completely and William's heart darkened along with it, turning bleak and desolate. He went around and walked to the other side of the bar, grabbed a bottle of red wine, uncovered the lid and poured it into his mouth straight away.

When the red wine flowed down his cheeks, a crystal clear liquid was mixed in, and together, they trickled down his neck and collarbone. It was so cold that his heart hurt.
