The people in the room could sense that Charles was in a bad mood. No one dared to say anything after Sophia left.

However, James was actually feeling relieved. He soon turned back to his refined and amiable self as usual.

He poured them their alcohol and chuckled lightly. “Don’t ruin your mood because of someone irrelevant. Let’s continue drinking.”

He clinked his glass with the others and downed his drink.

The atmosphere in the room turned better. It was as if Sophia never existed. However, the burning cigarette was fading. Charles sat in the middle of the room, not looking very happy.

After getting intoxicated, James and the others were feeling brave. Even so, they were still careful when they talked to Charles. “Mr. Harris, what do you think about our company’s new project?”

After this new project was launched, it would be a great success.

However, the disadvantage of this project was its size. It was too big and would involve a lot of things from funds to other aspects. White Industries would not be able to handle it alone.

“It’s okay.” The cigarette was at its end. Charles threw the cigarette butt into the ashtray.

After everyone in the room heard this, they all had their opinions. At the same time, they were all envious.

There were not a lot of projects that could be approved by Charles. White Industries got themselves a big investor. It was not known how much they could earn in a year.

James could not hide his joy. If he could work with Harris Corporation, he would definitely make a huge profit.

Plus, if they managed to work together for the first time, there would be the second and third time…

“However, Harris Corporation does not have any intention to work with anyone at the moment. Sorry.” Charles saw James’ joy and said with an ominous glint in his eyes.

James’ smile froze on his face. It was as if a bucket of water was just poured on top of his head. While panicking, he asked, “Since Mr. Harris thinks this project works, why don’t you want to work with me?”

He had been preparing for this project for two years. He kept fighting for a chance to work with Harris Corporation. Before this day, Mr. Harris had indeed expressed that he intended to work with him, so why did he change his mind all of a sudden?”

“Are you questioning me?” The light was bouncing off Charles. There was a shadow of his shirt on his collarbone. It accentuates his frigid expression.

“You’ve misunderstood me, Mr. Harris.” James wanted to make himself look less frantic, but it was difficult for him to look as refined as before. “I just want to know the reason so that I can learn from it.”

“It has nothing to do with the project you proposed, Mr. White. It’s just that there are some issues with the capital chain of Harris Corporation.” Charles stood up. “I still have something to take care of. I’ll be leaving first.”

He was being polite, but there was no modesty in what he was doing. After he said that, he left the room without waiting for anyone’s reactions.

The people in the room stood up when he stood up. After the door closed, they sat down again. James was the only one standing with his glass in his hand. His face was as dark as spilled ink.

Harris Corporation did not monopolized the entire country, but it was an enterprise that was second to none. The management of its capital chain was impeccable. This was often talked about by finance professors in prestigious universities.

However, Charles was saying that there were issues with their capital chain. Obviously, it was an excuse. It was an extremely perfunctory excuse.

“No wonder Mr. White rejected me when I proposed to work together with him. Looks like he already has an ideal partner.” One person smiled and said, “Too bad, this ideal partner is not too pleased with Mr. White’s proposal.”

“I heard a lot of people talking about White Industries’ new project recently. They said the rate of return looks decent, so Mr. Harris should not turn down a cake that’s on the side of his mouth.”

“Maybe what Mr. Harris is not pleased with is not the project but his janitor daughter.”

A few people started mocking him.

James’ face turned from green to white and then to red. It was as interesting to look at.

He placed his glass down and picked up his briefcase. “I still have something to take care of at the office. I’ll be leaving now.”
