“What do you mean?” Master Harris was still domineering. It was not difficult to catch the weariness in his voice if one were to listen carefully, though.

Sophia stopped smiling and said in all seriousness, “Give Charles 25 percent of the shares and he won’t fight Justin for the inheritance after you’ve passed away.”

“25 percent?! Sophia, do you really think one word from you will be able to get you 25 percent of Harris Corporation shares?!” Master Harris stood up as his eyes went wide with anger.

Ted’s entire family’s shares were just this amount!

Sophia said, “I think there’s a need for correction. He’s not gaining these shares because of one word from me. These shares are given due to Charles’ capability. He deserves it. Isn’t what you’re dreading most right now Charles?”

Charles was a little astonished as he had never expected Sophia to make such a demand.

Even he was shocked by her quick growth!

The look on Master Harris’ face changed. It was red with anger because of Sophia’s exorbitant demand, yet he was unable to utter a word throughout this time.

It was because everything Sophia said was too damn right!

Master Harris sat on the sofa while lifting a glass of water to drink. He had a melancholy look on his face. He slammed the glass back on the table. “The shares in my hands have long been distributed out.”

“You pretty much have a hand in everything. I’m sure it won’t be difficult for you to retract 25 percent shares from your children and grandchildren,” said Sophia.

Master Harris did not say a word for quite a while. All he did was continue drinking water.

Sophia did not push him. She caressed the wounds on Charles and said, “You have so many wounds. You must have endured quite a lot of beatings in the past.”

“Not much, just twice or thrice a day.”

“Does it hurt?”

“It’s nothing. At most, I just can’t get out of bed because of the pain. I’m used to it.”

“Charles, why are you being so silly? Don’t you know how to fight back? Why should you get beaten all the time when you’re making money for them? Even ancient slaves don’t have it as bad!” Part of it was said for Master Harris’ benefit while part of it was said out of heartache for Charles.

These wounds did not form in just one or two days!

Master Harris knew their conversation was meant for him to hear. He frowned and said angrily, “Aren’t you making things out to be too perfect?! Do you think the others in the family will stand by and watch while Charles takes everything away from Justin? Careful, your attempts at getting rich might just make you end up losing what you already have!”

“If Charles wants Uncle Oscar’s assets, the family will naturally do something about it.

“However, don’t you forget, Master Harris. You’ve been favoring Ted’s family all these years and the others have long been unhappy about it!

“If Charles takes away Ted’s family’s share of the inheritance that shouldn’t have belonged to them in the first place, it’ll only cheer up the other members of the family! They can’t wait for Charles to take action!” Sophia said.

Silence.

Sophia straightened her back. Her back hurt, but if she hunched over, her waist would be tired. She decided to plop herself onto the sofa.

It did not make her feel any more comfortable.

She could only lie on her stomach or her side in order to avoid the wound on her back, but it was not a suitable situation to do so.

It took quite a while for Master Harris to finally say something with a dark look on his face. “What happens after I give Charles 25 percent of the shares? How can I guarantee that Charles won’t take what belongs to Ted and his family after I… After I die?”

“If you aren’t confident, you can state it in your will. If Charles were to fight Justin for his inheritance, you’ll have his 25 percent shares confiscated.”

“Justin has around 25 percent shares in hand, and it’s the same amount you’ll be giving Charles. There’s no need for him to torment himself with so much work, it’s not worth it.”

There were companies willing to conduct this service if enough payment was made for the management of his will. It would also command enough authority to forcefully execute the will.
