Of the Internet stories I have ever read, perhaps the most impressive one is Atrophy of Love: Mr. Harris, Stop Fooling Around!. The story is too good, leaving me with many doubts. Currently, the manga has been translated to Chapter 364 What’s Wrong About It. Let's read the author's Atrophy of Love: Mr. Harris, Stop Fooling Around! Internet story right here.
A jeering look flashed across Charles’ eyes. “Secondly, Grandfather is helping me prepare the 25 percent shares and that little mistress of yours in England is green with envy, so she made you talk to me and convince me that her newborn son deserves a piece of the pie as well, is that right?”
“Charles, don’t be so harsh,” Mr. Harris said with a frown, “Your grandfather left the 25 percent shares for our family. What’s wrong with sharing it with your little brother?”
Charles grinned sarcastically. “I don’t have a little brother, though.”
“Whether you acknowledge him or not, your blood says that he is, in fact, your little brother!” Mr. Harris yelled.
Clank!
Yvette set her cup on the table and stood up. “Alan Harris, can you be any more shameless? It’s one thing for you to parade around with your mistresses and neglect my son, but now that he has earned himself the company shares, you have the audacity to march up to him and snatch it for your illegitimate child? How are you not embarrassed of yourself?”
Sophia always had the impression that Madam Harris was an elegant, prim, and proper lady, the perfect woman whom you would only see in fiction or films. However, she had never seen the lady disregard her image like this.
“I’m talking to Charles here, what are you interrupting for?” Mr. Harris retorted in an unpleasant tone.
Charles tapped his finger lightly on the table as he pulled his tie off and threw it aside. “Before you give this b*stard child of yours a piece of the shares, don’t you think you should at least check if he’s yours?”
“... What do you mean?” Mr. Harris’ expression darkened even more.
Charles raised his brow and looked at him with amusement in his eyes. “That little mistress of yours always has a blonde handsome boy following her around, no?”
“That’s her half-brother,” Mr. Harris sneaked a look at Yvette and could not help but explain himself.
Charles chuckled. “She claims that he’s her brother and you believe her so easily. When did you become so naive?”
Mr. Harris’ frown deepened, and his face went pale. He stood there quietly for a long while before he finally stormed out of the room.
“Wait a minute!” Charles called after him, “I don’t care if it’s Aunt Lewis or any of your other illegitimate children, don’t use them as an excuse to come see me and stir up trouble with me anymore in the future.”
Mr. Harris immediately stopped in his tracks and turned around. “Charles, do you think so highly of yourself just because you’ve successfully threatened your grandfather? Do you think you don’t need to be afraid of anyone anymore?”
“There’s always someone out there stronger and more powerful than me, I’d never dare to think that,” Charles answered.
Mr. Harris snorted. “Don’t be so proud of yourself and become so ruthless with everyone else, you never know when a day comes when you might regret it.”
“I don’t need you to worry about the things I regret, Father,” Charles said, “Let’s just stay clear of each other and mind our own business from now on. If your illegitimate children ask for shares, give them yourself if you’re so capable, or otherwise, stop pretending that you’re so good yourself.”
He paused before continuing in a harsher tone. “As for me, I will never give them a single cent!”
“Alright, remember your words! I won’t mind you and the same goes for you. I want to see just how long you can act so arrogantly!” Mr. Harris sneered and strode away.
The villa immediately fell into an awkward silence.
After a long moment, Yvette broke the silence. “Charles, you shouldn’t have turned completely against him. You never know what’s going to happen in the future. What if something happens to you? At least you could still…”
“No matter what problems I encounter, I will never go to him for help.” Charles interrupted her with a deep frown.
Yvette let out a sigh and did not push further. Then, she turned to Sophia. “I’m sorry you had to witness that.”
“Every family has a skeleton in their cupboard, it’s nothing,” Sophia replied.
Perhaps she would never have been able to understand a married couple who constantly argued with each other in the past. After all, her parents never fought, and on the rare occasions that his father threw tantrums, her mother would quickly coax him and they would make amends.
