Sylvia was in the same hospital ward as Jax. Aside from the bruises on her neck, she was fine otherwise. Jax’s condition, on the other hand, was much worse. Bandages covered his entire body as his neck, arms and legs were wrapped in casts.

“Didn’t you say that you would wait until Sophia and Charles to turn against each other before withdrawing her bodyguards and leaving her to fend for herself? Why did you change your mind all of a sudden?” Jax’s throat hurt when he spoke.

Sylvia gave her a look. “Undue delay might bring trouble. Besides, my instincts were right. Sophia told Charles everything so even if we had gone according to our plan, it wouldn’t have worked.”

She did not regret giving Leah the window of opportunity to kill Sophia, the only unfortunate thing was that Leah had been so sloppy with cleaning up her trails so she was outed so quickly.

“Though…” Jax continued in a troubled tone, “You were specifically told not to lay a finger on Sophia to avoid provoking Charles. Now that you have done this, he and Charles won’t be happy with you.”

Sylvia was unbothered. “It’s just a woman, Charles will forget her after some time.”

Back in the days, Charles’ father himself had refused to marry anyone except the b*tch from the Lewis family. He even went on a hunger strike and attempted suicide in the process, but in the end, he still married Yvette obediently and ended up with mistresses all over the place.

Charles had been head over heels for Sophia for this period of time and was willing to even give up his shares of Harris Corporation. When he thinks back about this in the future, he would surely call himself an idiot.

“But…” Jax was about to say something when the phone rang. When he glanced at the caller ID, his eyes lit up in fear. “He’s calling, I think he wants to ask what happened.”

Sylvia frowned and took the phone from him. When she placed the phone by her ear, the frown was instantly replaced with a bright smile. “Why did you call me in person? I have to say, I’m quite flattered.”

“If I don’t call you myself, I’m afraid you might forget who I am!” An angry man’s voice sounded from the other end of the phone.

“You can’t possibly be joking! Even if I, Sylvia Yates, lose my memory and forget what my name is, I would never forget you,” Sylvia replied.

“Don’t bother trying to suck up! Why didn’t you act according to plan?! Sylvia Yates, I just warned you in the afternoon to not lay a finger on Sophia White, yet you had someone kill her that very night. Do you even take me seriously?” The man continued yelling.

Although there was a troubled look on Sylvia’s face, the flattery in her tone was undisguised. “You have misunderstood me. I only did it because I had no other choice, not that I don’t listen to you.”

The man merely snorted.

“Sophia revealed everything I asked her to do to Charles and I was worried that he might follow the clues and track us down, that’s why I decided to get rid of Sophia at the very last minute,” Sylvia explained.

Charles had a long way to go but he was losing his sense of right and wrong because of Sophia, she could not possibly allow a liability like Sophia to stay by his side.

The man froze for a moment, and there was a subtle hint of fear when he asked, “Sophia told Charles everything? When did that happen?”

“Don’t panic, Sophia just thought I wanted to break her and Charles up and nothing more. Besides, Leah was the one who did it so she will be taking full responsibility for her actions, we will not be involved in this in any way,” Sylvia said.

However, the man was aggravated upon hearing this. “Even if I won’t get involved in this, Charles blames you for everything now so how are you going to intervene in the company now?”

“Don’t worry, just leave it all to me. During this time, at least until Sophia’s funeral, Charles will not be dealing with the company’s affairs. These few days are enough for me to proceed with my plan,” Sylvia answered.

Then only did the man felt slightly relieved. However, he warned her several times before hanging up to act according to plan and not mess around.
