Charles’ current state was quite troubling.

“I don’t have anything to do so I’m not in a rush, I can send you to the hospital before I go,” Mr. Logan said as he stood beside the car.

“It’s fine.”

Without giving him another chance to speak, Charles closed the door and started the car before driving away.

Mr. Logan could not stop worrying, and so he went to the other car and followed Charles closely behind. Then, at least he could still help out if anything were to happen.

He did not bother trying to hide the fact that he was following Charles either, and Charles quickly noticed the car following. However, Charles did not stop him.

When they got to the entrance of the hospital, Charles got off the car and said to Mr. Logan behind him, “I want to be alone with her for a while.”

“Alright.” Mr. Logan knew better than to follow him then, but he did not leave either. He got back into the car and ordered some food for himself. The two of them had not eaten the entire day now and he could not take it any longer.

When Charles got to the hospital room, Nicole, Sterling, and Yvette were in the room as well. None of them spoke and the room was eerily quiet.

At the sight of him entering the room, Sterling looked up at him and said dully, “Thank you for before with the evil witch.”

If it were not for Charles, he would have been taken to prison as well, and by the time he was released, Soph would have been cremated.

Charles merely ignored him as he kept his gaze on the body lying in the hospital bed. “Did anyone move Sophia’s body?”

The body on the bed right now seemed slightly plumper and shorter than Sophia.

“Dr. Hemingway told me that it’s normal for dead bodies to swell up and look slightly shorter visually.” Nicole had been in the hospital for a long time, and aside from drinking water, she had neither slept nor eaten so she looked worn out.

Charles bit his lip as pain and sorrow flashed across his eyes.

She was right, Sophia was already gone. Was he still hoping that she would come back to life?

Yvette’s heart ached to see her son so hurt. “Charles, the temperature in a hospital ward isn’t appropriate to keep a body, we should move her to a funeral home as soon as possible. If you truly love Soph, at least try not to let her body suffer anymore.”

Did Charles not realize this?

Just the thought of Sophia’s body being cremated, her existence in this world reduced to just a handful of ashes made him feel as if someone had brought a blade to his heart and the pain was unbearable.

Sterling had loved and spoilt this sister for twenty over years now so he was in denial as well, but still, he could not help but try to keep himself together. “Charles, my sister loved you so much, I’m sure she doesn’t want to see you like this. Besides, the temperature in the room is too high, it’s not…”

He was choked with a sob mid-sentence and he could not bring himself to finish the sentence. He felt as if fish bones were prickling his throat and it hurt to even speak.

“... Let’s just cremate her body.” It was just a short sentence, yet it took all the energy Charles had to say it.

He could not bear seeing her like this.

He could not imagine how much pain she suffered when she died.

Sterling was quiet for a while before he gritted his teeth and said, “Okay!”

“Can you give me a little time with her alone before we send her for the cremation?” Although Charles was looking straight into Sterling’s eyes, his eyes were empty and hollow as if he was not even staring at all.

Yvette dabbed a tissue paper over her eyes several times before she left the room with swollen, red eyes.

Sterling looked at the burnt corpse on the bed longingly as his hand wiped a teardrop from his face. Then, he pulled Nicole toward the door.

However, before they even reached the door, they heard a loud thud from behind all of a sudden.

When he turned around, Charles had fallen to the ground unconscious.
