Chapter 4 

I should have known–1 should have the king known 

The door creaked open earlier, and then he’s there, 

Barefoot, shirtless, and looking like every bad decision Eve ever wanted to 

The bloodied bandages wrapped around his torso should make him look vulnerable, but they don’t. Instead, they only lightened up the absurd perfection of his body–the ridges of his abs, the curve of his shoulders, the sharp line of his jaw. That was the first thing I saw when I picked him up and Goddess knows how much I shouldn’t have. 

His damp hair sticks to his forehead, a few stray strands falling into those green eyes that seem to cut through the hallways.

11 Kallias is a polished prince, then this guy is a fucking war god, 

Seraphina who is still standing behind Kallias finally had her hands loose from my mate. Her jaw drops, her wide eyes drinking the man in like she’s parched and he’s the last drop of water in the desert.

“Kallias,” she whispers, clutching at his arm as though it’s the only thing keeping her upright–or her panties upright. 

“Who is that?” 

I want to laugh at her. Of course, she’s gawking. The irony is almost too much to bear–she’s clinging to my mate she just stole over night while drooling over the rogue who looks like he just stepped out of one of those over–the–top romance novel 

I clench the man’s hand, still around my waist. He saved me back there. If he already said I’m ‘his woman, then no reason not to play along, right? 

“Oh, him?” I say, the words slipping out before I can stop them. “He’s my long–distance boyfriend.” 

Kallias snaps his head toward me, his eyes narrowing. “So what that doctor said was right all along.”

The rogue–no, this um well super hot man–arches a brow, his lips twitching as he fights a smile. 

“Yes,” I say, doubling down because at this point, why the hell not? They cheated on me, so why can’t I do the same? 

No, wait Taryn, that seems a little fucked up. 

“My long–distance boyfriend. He just got here. From… a very far away pack 

Kallias’s eyes flash gold, his wolf climbing to the surface. “You think this is funny, Thryn?” 

“No,” I say innocently, shrugging. “I think it’s the truth.” 

The rogue doesn’t react–at least not the way I expect him to. Instead of correcting me or making things more awkward, he steps closer to me, his hand tightening around my waist like it belongs there. 

My skin burns where his large fingers touch, even with my clothes on. Fuck, every single one of my nerve is alive under the hands of a stranger I shouldn’t even know. 

“Taryn,” I was pulled out of my thought when the stranger lowered his head just ear–level, a shudder immediately slips out of me with his breath fanning my skin.

“She’s already with me.” he says, his tone calm, and it wouldn’t ake a genius to see that this whole situation is beneath him. 

It’s the kind of calm that sets Kallias off instantly. 

“You bastard.” Kallias snarls, lunging forward. His hand slams into Enoch’s chest, pinning him to the w 

mate.” 

“Was,” I correct under my breath, but no one’s listening to n

Enoch doesn’t flinch. He just looks down at Kallias as if he’s a mildly interesting bug and no one, and I mean no one has ever done that to someone like Kallias 

“I wouldn’t do that if I were you,” Enoch mutters evenly, his voice quiet but somehow more commanding than any shout. 

For a second, nothing happens. 

Or so I thought. 

Then Kallias’s wolf surges forward, his eyes glowing gold. But the glow flickers, dims, like his wolf doesn’t know what to do at the sight of Enoch 

Kallias stumbles back, his hand flying to his head, grimacing with a headache. “What the fuck?” 

W–what is happening? 

Even Seraphina looks confused and finally notices him. “Kallias?” she says, voice high–pitched and shaky. 

But Kallias doesn’t answer. He backs away, his eyes flicking between gold and blue before they finally settle on their normal color. 

Without another word, he turns and storms down the hallway, dragging Seraphina behind 

him 

“K–kallias…I step forward. I don’t think he’s alright. I should at least- 

“Don’t.” A small whisper rushes back towards me as I’m being pulled back from even daring to take another step. 

When they’re finally gone. I whirl onto the rogue, yanking his hand off my waist.. 

“W–what the hell was that?” I hiss, crossing my arms. 

He tilts his head, his green eyes glinting with amusement. “What was what?” 

“Oh, I don’t know,” I snap, “maybe the part where you just stood there like you weren’t bleeding all over the place while Kallias tried to kill you?” 

He shrugs, like it’s nothing. “I thought I could take him on.” 

“You thought you could take him.” I repeat, dripping with disbelief.

“I’ll go back to the room, He turns, walking a few steps before pausing 

“But you want that man to leave, don’t you?” His murmur drops, cold and ruthless. He glances back at me, his expression unreadable. “Nothing works better than jealousy itself” 

Before I can respond, he’s gone, leaving me standing in the hallway with my heart rac 

I find him in the room a few minutes later, sprawled on the bed as if he owns it. His head tilts toward me as I step inside. arms crossed. I look like I’m very determined to keep control of this situation and I am. 

I have a rogue in the hospital. I 

Just introduced him as my long distance boyfriend. And he’s much stranger than I thought.

Why did I do all of that 

“You’re going to let me patch you up again.” I try firmly. 

He shrugs, sitting up slowly, wine ing as he moves “If you insist” 

“Don’t get cure” I mutter grabbing the medical supplies 

As I press a clean bandage to his chest, I can’t help but notice how solid he feels under my hands His muscles sense sightly at my touch, but he doesn’t flinch 

“You’re staring,” he says casually, his voice snapping me out of my thoughts 

“I am not!” 1 blunt, pulling my hands back like he’s on fire. 

“Sure,” he says with those God–molded lips twitching again. 

Ugh. I’d smack that if it’s not all that beautiful. 

I narrow my eyes, but instead of snapping back. I push his shoulders until he’s lying down. He doesn’t resist as he just lets me manhandle him like he’s a damn y 

“Stay still.” I grumble, focusing on the bandages. 

He hums softly, and for a moment, the silence feels almost… comfortable. 

“What’s your name?” I mutter, keeping my voice steady. That’s the least he can give me avatar doing all that all that touching earlier. 

“Enoch,” he says, the word rolling off his tongue in that deep, gravelly tone. 

I pause, glancing up at him. “Enoch, huh? And what exactly are you doing here?” 

His expression doesn’t change, still neutral and unreadable. “I don’t know.”
