Key: Be Your Lover Forever (Alicia) Chapter 1289
A life hanging on the line, Lauren worried Willy would regret it when it dawned on him later as she calmed down. They had crossed paths, after all!
She reached her arms out, wanting to take Yvette from him. "Come, Yvette, let Mommy carry you!"
"No..."
Clearly sleepy, Yvette wouldn't leave Willy's arms, fussing as she kept her arms wrapped around his neck.
Lauren got anxious at that but couldn't help bewildering, "Since when has Yvette begun clinging to Willy?" It had only been a few days, and she had already fallen out of favor?
She then took a step forward, clapping her hands. "Yvette, let Mommy carry you, okay? Daddy has something he has to go to... You're a good girl, Yvette..."
With that, she grabbed her hand, but right as she tugged, Yvette began fussing again, dragging herself back into Willy's arms. "No! No... Daddy carry... I want Daddy! Comfy... Sleepy... Mmm... No..."
Lauren kept her hands spread, feeling rather helpless while Willy's heart ached for his baby girl, patting her back, comforting her, "Okay, okay, Daddy will carry you, Daddy will! We'll stay like this..."
Yvette adjusted her position as she nuzzled in Willy's arms. Very quickly, she stopped moving.
"Never mind, I'll go over after we bring Yvette back to her ward!"
After taking a gander at Cloud, Willy strode away, holding Lauren's hand while carrying Yvette in his arms. Cloud, on the other hand, gnashed her teeth at Willy's response as she slowly turned in his direction.
After settling Yvette down in her ward, Willy only consulted Dory's doctor and visited her in the ICU.
Doctors and nurses crowded the ward right then. Dory's hair had already all fallen off, looking pitifully pallid all over. Her eyes were half-open, looking like they were shrouded in a layer of mist, not focusing on anything. She was so weak that she could barely make a sound anymore, but Willy could tell she was probably mouthing 'Mommy'.
"Mommy... Mom..."
He had been acquainted with the child, after all; his heart wrenched for her, looking at the scene. "Doctor, is there really no other way? What about HSCT?"
The doctor was also all woeful and despondent as he shook his head. Seeing so, Willy could only sigh weakly as well. Alas, there was only so much humankind could do no matter how hard they tried! She was still so little, yet she was already suffering so much pain and torture before she got to take a good look at the world. How could his heart not ache for her?
Cloud was already choking with sobs, sitting at the edge of the bed. However, there was nothing any of them could do that hadn't already been done then. In the end, Dory took off her oxygen mask, lying in her mother's arms as she held her hand weakly.
"Mommy, I'm leaving you soon, aren't I? I won't hurt anymore..."
"Mommy, I want to go home. Our home, that home!"
"Will my hair... grow back? Mommy, I want to eat cake. I want to wear a red dress! I don't want to stay here..."
"Mommy, pain..."
Dory expressed a lot intermittently, and Cloud's smiling sobs made the atmosphere increasingly grieving. As Willy barely heard anything that had to do with him in Dory's words, he couldn't help feeling doubtful amidst the sadness, unnerving
him.
He stayed in the ward in silence the entire time, only leaving when Dory fell into a deep slumber from fatigue.
Right as he returned to Yvette's ward, he saw her leaning in Lauren's arms, reading a storybook. The warm and affectionate scene was a sharp contrast to the incongruous sadness earlier.
"Why hasn't she slept?"
Willy checked the time to find it was already past ten, his face riddled with exhaustion as well as he removed his jacket.
"She insisted on waiting for you! You must be exhausted. I had the servants bring some soup over. Why don't I get you a bowl, and you can rest for a while before you go to bed!"
With that, Lauren got up and went to the small room attached to the ward while Willy sat down on the edge of the bed. He was genuinely worn out, closing his eyes a little as he rolled his head and stiff shoulders. But just as he moved, a gentle pressure struck him, and he saw Yvette standing right behind the moment he opened his eyes, pounding his shoulders. Willy froze right then, his heart overflowing with love.
"Daddy works hard to make money for you; so you give Daddy a nice massage..."
Yvette pounded hard a couple of times as she spoke.
Willy's exhaustion seemed to have vanished that instant, immensely touched, asking her as he pulled her into his lap, "You're such a sweet girl, Yvette! Do your head and tummy still hurt?"
Shaking her head, Yvette tugged on his shirt to stand on his legs, playing with him. "No! I'm okay now. Daddy, I want to see Dree! You promised you'd take me to see big birds and Dree! "
Lauren came out with a bowl of soup only to see Yvette fussing. Putting the bowl down, she looked sternly at her.
"Yvette, come down! Hadn't I told you, you can't be wilful or horse around? Daddy's very tired after working a whole day. Let him rest and have his dinner first; I'll play with you. Daddy will play with you tomorrow, okay?"
She had already picked Yvette up as she spoke and even shot a glance at the food tray aside.
Willy's heart melted at the view. His woman, his daughter, the two most important women in his life, similarly thoughtful and sensible, similarly caring for him!
Happiness wasn't enough to describe how he felt right then.
Genuinely hungry, he put a piece of bread into his soup and began eating. But after a couple of spoonfuls, he noticed Yvette staring at it and smacking her lips. With that, he fed her a spoonful. Swallowing it, Yvette kicked her legs happily, then covered her mouth as she looked over to Lauren.
Lauren couldn't help chuckling as well, taking a piece of tissue to wipe her mouth. "Look at you; a mouthful of soup, and you're already so happy."
Willy extended his spoon over to Yvette again right as Lauren finished speaking, and Yvette stretched her neck to eat it, giggling joyously.
