Willy lowered his head to kiss her. "Maybe we've just made the same mistake..."
She was probably bothered when she'd rather do things the hard way, no?
He leaned his forehead against hers, relating to her.
"Laurie, we're both working on bettering ourselves. Fortunately, we didn't lose each other; everything's still not too late! marriage isn't the end of our love but a new beginning..."
To grow, one must pay the price. Without experiencing it, how could they grow up?
"Yeah..."
Lauren couldn't help smiling as she nuzzled his nose.
"Mommy! Mommy... I want a kiss too. Daddy, carry. Daddy, carry me..."
Feeling tugs and climbs at their legs, the couple looked down and chuckled, "Haha..."
With that, Willy bent over and picked Yvette up while Lauren poked her chubby cheek before gently tucking her arm into Willy's.
"You little monkey; you're already fighting for
Daddy's affection with Mommy, are you?"
Willy had a rare exultant as the family of three walked hand in hand. "Our baby Yvette's an angel; our most precious gift from the heavens!"
This little one had really helped them a lot. Though she hadn't been part of the plan, he felt so fortunately in love with her right then.
They joyously chatted as they headed inside.
After dinner, Lauren went back to the bedroom to see an exquisite gift box on the vanity, and a fine red handbag came to view after she pulled the ribbon and uncovered the lid. The bag only had a leather tassel buckle of the same color as decoration. The only focal point was the black diamond embedded rose with a little s-shaped braid hanging from it; coupled with the tassel, the design was ingeniously low-key luxurious.
Feeling the handbag, she couldn't conceal her smile, thinking. "I thought he only had Yvette in his mind. So he got me something too, huh? The flower, though..."
Before her hand landed on the rose, a warm sensation came to her waist. "You like it? I had them made for you and Yvette. One for each; I didn't play favorites..."
Willy planted a gentle kiss on her neck as he mumbled.
"Yeah, I do! Why the flower and braid, though?"
Lauren looked over her shoulder as Willy nodded.
"Poison Rose and daughter of the Luther family; your personal symbol. Maybe I got interested in you deep down the moment I learned about you and your nickname! No offense, but before meeting you, I could never bring myself to like any woman. The ones I've met, well mostly; it's not that they aren't good-looking, but they'd either be selling their bodies or living off others, and I loathed that! So, you, my little tomboy, are right up my alley! Talented, aloof, and unlike most women who only think of love and romance! Laurie, maybe I should thank you for coming into my life so that I can still live like a straight man and live the life I've always dreamed of!"
"Hehe, so are you saying if it weren't for me, you'd most likely have fallen in love with a man now? Oh... then I should mourn for your bros, no Lexx first, don't I?"
Lauren couldn't help giggling at the thought.
Back then, she only ever felt as though a thorn wedged itself in her heart whenever he called her 'little tomboy' but now, hearing it again, she felt nothing but sweetness.
It was still the same nickname, but the feeling was completely different now.
Right then, even her happiness was serene, already having some realization.
Perhaps it bothered her not because of what it meant but her self-abasement. Maybe even she thought she wasn't feminine; hence 'little tomboy' became a derogatory term. But now that she was certain of his love and she no longer dressed androgynously, the nickname no longer sounded upsetting.
The human heart, her heart, was often the greatest demon!
Willy grazed her nose lightly as he narrowed his eyes. "Looks like someone's learned to make fun of me, huh?"
"No, you said it yourself..."
"You're playing dumb like Yvette again!"
Things suddenly got a little hot as they frolicked, and Lauren froze instantly, wide- eyed, couldn't help blushing.
"You scoundrel! As if you'd like a man?"
She had merely turned around, couldn't even move one of her arms still, having done absolutely nothing! If every man with his reaction liked men, then all women could say goodbye to finding themselves a partner.
"I'm certain... I'm perfectly straight!"
As he spoke again, the huskiness in his voice indicated how turned on he was. "Laurie..." He wanted inside her!
First, Yvette got seriously sick, then she got hurt, and he happened to have to go on a business trip; he hadn't had a taste of her for so long.
"Cut it out. What if Yvette sees us?"
When her mother finally did text her and sent her some money, f*king hell, the transaction had been declined before she could even accept it.
Needless to say, her father had definitely found out!
She had never lived so miserably, but she didn't dare shamelessly go home at this time either. What was more, honestly speaking, though her mother has legally married into the Luther family now, after all these years, the relatives still don't acknowledge her as much as her father's first wife.
Because not only was Lauren's mother talented, she had also contributed to the Luther family's development; the entire family approved of her. But her mother? Her identity as a mistress aside, she started off as a socialite. Though everyone got along okay on the surface, in reality, no one but her father was close to her and her mother.
Hence, no matter how dignified or spoiled she got over the years, her mother would constantly remind her to know her place and not mess with Lauren. She wasn't too worried about her father; after all, she'd most probably be fine after he lashed out, but she genuinely didn't dare mess with Elijah and his mother. After all, the power of the family was in their hands. More than that, they have watched and even raised Lauren since she was a child. Having been born of the first wife and feeling bad that she had lost her mother at a young age, they treated Lauren much better than they would toward her.
Having money but unable to spend it felt much worse than having none at all!
Looking at the check, she debated for a moment before calling Lexx, too embarrassed to ask Lauren for money again.
At East Bannpool, Lexx, who was tipsy, received a call from an unknown number the moment he came out of the bathroom. He then loosened his tie before answering it with his typical greeting.
"Hello, who's this?"
"Hi, I'm Isla Luther! My brother-in-law asked you to give me half a million dollars every month. I can't exchange the cheque now. Can you transfer me some allowance first? I don't need a lot; just a hundred thousand will do!"
As she spoke soberly, her gaze was on the brand logo across the street, thinking she could at least reward herself with a shirt if she couldn't afford anything else, right?
After all, she had humiliated herself that evening; she couldn't have cried for nothing!
Lexx was already annoyed when he heard a female voice, and after hearing what she had to say, he hung up, thinking he had met a scammer.
On the other end of the line, Isla, still living in her dream, raised her foot only to hear the line had been cut off, rendering her stump for a few seconds. What the hell?
"Hang up on me? What the hell? He didn't give me an empty promise, did he?"
Defiant, she called again.
Lexx had just taken a couple of steps when he received another call. Seeing it was the same number again, he couldn't help sneering as he pressed the answer button.
"What are you, a lunatic? How desperate are you for money? Harass me again, and I'll kill you!"
Isla's mouth was still agape when the busy tone rang out again...
