Isla stared at her phone, taking a long time to process what had just happened. What the hell? How dare he yell and threaten her?
How rude!
Had she called the wrong number?
Stumped for a couple of seconds, Isla entered the digits as she checked the name card and called Lexx again despite her irritation.
On the other side, Lexx had nowhere to vent his frustrations, having had one too many. But the more frustrated he was, the more trouble he got, landing him inevitably in a bad mood. Then his phone rang again before he could even put it away; he was PISSED.
F*cking hell, f*cking scammer! What the hell was wrong with her? Should he really get some guys to teach her a lesson?
This time, he chose to end the call directly!
Isla gritted her teeth at that, mad. "Aren't you just some f*cking personal assistant? How dare you hang up on me? Sh*t!"
After cursing, she turned her phone for a couple of seconds before pausing. "This won't do. How am I going to eat if I don't have any money?"
With that, she took a deep breath and twitched her mouth, calling Lexx again.
Receiving 'the scammer's' call before he could even block the number, Lexx rolled his eyes in anger and pressed the answer button, gnashing his teeth.
"You-"
"Don't you dare hang up on me! I'm Isla Luther, Willy Bowles's sister-in-law! He said to look for you! I can only exchange the cheque tomorrow; come and verify if you don't believe me! He told me to look for you. I don't have any money left; give me a hundred thousand first! Deduct from next month's allowance; people are waiting for me to pay the bill!"
Her roar sobered Lexx up a little, visibly stumped for a few seconds before he tugged at his necktie.
These scammers were really getting better and better! They sure have done some thorough digging!
A Luther, the young lady of the Luther family, would be so short of money that she'd need his help? Who did she think she was fooling? She could've at least come up with a better lie than that!
A hundred thousand, ha, she sure knew to make demands.
Just as he was about to give her a good yell, he paused right when his words were in his mouth. It wouldn't do. If he yelled at her and hung up, who knew if she'd continue to harass him?
How annoying!
He couldn't switch his phone off just because of a lunatic either, no?
Suddenly he was struck with an idea.
"Something's wrong with my phone; I can't transfer any money! I'll send you cash. I'll go to the office and get it; send me a location..."
That would do!
Isla heaved a sigh of relief hearing that and looked around. "Then I'll wait for you at a restaurant. I'm hungry; you better hurry up!"
"Sure..."
They talked a bit more, and after ending the call, Isla found a high- end restaurant and ordered some fancy dinner before sending Lexx her location.
Back in East Bannpool, Lexx couldn't help twitching his lips when he received Islas location. "Quite convincing! You sure know how to enjoy yourself!"
Following that, he texted a reply. "Okay, got it! As soon as possible!"
With that, he locked his phone and returned to the private room, drinking and enjoying himself!
Isla felt bored, eating as she waited, so she started scrolling through designer websites and even chose the nearest ones that could deliver the goods immediately, thinking she didn't have to worry now that she had the money.
She had even considerately given Lexx a two-hour leeway given that he'd have to go to his office, come here, and possibly encounter heavy traffic or accidents and unforeseen situations.
Two hours; he'd have arrived even if he walked, right?
As she estimated, she deliberately had the delivery and payment time set to the same period, even selecting 'payment on delivery' for all of them when she made the orders.
Lexx tapped his head, not believing she was genuinely waiting for him somewhere but instead thinking the scammer was quite persistent. She still hadn't given up when he had already led her on like this!
Was she really not going to stop until she got what she wanted?
No, it could very well be 'the wages of avarice is death'. She probably wasn't going to give up any chances of getting money, no matter how bleak it may seem!
Shaking his head, he was even less bothered about the issue now with the notion in mind. When the cab arrived, he got on and went straight home.
After entering his bedroom, he chucked his phone aside, then sloppily washed up before finally throwing himself onto his bed. Before putting his phone on silent, he didn't forget to text 'the scammer'.
"Door won't open with my key. Dealing with it. Don't worry; won't be long!"
With that, he chucked his phone aside again and pulled his covers over, falling into a deep sleep.
Early the next morning, a rap at the door woke him up.
Hearing that, he tugged the covers and covered his ears, even turning over. "There's no one home. Knock it off!"
After a momentary silence, the rapping came again. "Is Mr. Lexx Lopez home? We're police from the Casterwich City Division. Please cooperate with us and open the door!"
"Police? I'm your supervisor then... Not another scammer again!"
Exasperated, Lexx turned over, wanting to yell 'scram' only to shoot straight up. "Po-police?"
Why would they come and knock on his door so early in the morning? He was a legal citizen!
It couldn't be that there was an issue with one of their clubs, could it?
It couldn't be!
Some of their businesses may operate under the gray area; they never dealt anything deadly illegal. What could it be that the manager couldn't handle?
