Trevor's gastric felt much worse when he returned to his bed, livid. He didn't even hear Victoria's last mumble, only having one thought in his mind the entire night.

Just how incredible was their love back then? Was there nothing he could do to correct the harm he had done to her? He had never coerced any woman in his life; was his selfishness truly wrong this time?

Though physically and mentally weary, he tossed and turned that night, only falling asleep at the crack of dawn with his brows knitted into a tight furrow.

He was woken up by some soft rustling noise, opening his eyes to see a doctor and a few nurses surrounding him.

"What's going on? His condition had been under control and even subsiding yesterday; how has it relapsed overnight? Continue to give him the medication; add another two days' dosage. Break the fever first!"

"The patient has to keep a calm mind and get plenty of rest. Rushing gets you nowhere; he'll only be able to discharge sooner if he complies with his treatment. Getting worked up won’t solve the problem; it'll only induce other sicknesses! Health comes before everything; no matter how busy he is, he has to put it all down for now!"

Only then did the doctor and nurses leave.

Trevor turned his head subconsciously, landing on the sofa aside only to find it empty.

She had already left? Or did she go and see that guy again?

As his gaze darkened, a nervous figure came into sight, fiddling her hands, looking very sorry.

"Hubby, are you awake?"

Victoria hesitated for a second but still went up to him, pulling his blanket up. "I've upset you again, haven't I?"

The doctor said he had been doing well, but his condition had worsened since last night. It probably had to do with his anger, and she didn't have to be a genius to know she was highly likely the culprit.

His gaze turned cold all of a sudden, saying nothing.

"Hubby, I didn't miss our date on purpose. I got locked in the storage and only managed to get out by climbing the window. Anthony happened to pass by and saved me. But he accidentally lacerated his wound, that's what I..."

"I didn't mean to upset you. I didn't know you were sick! I know I'm inadequate; I'm a horrible wife. I didn't even notice you were unwell. I'm sorry!"

Trevor, however, still said nothing.

She didn't understand how things suddenly came to this, but Trevor didn't throw a fit this time when their eyes met. However, she sensed an apparent foreign unfamiliarity. She couldn't believe his silence would make her slightly uneasy.

Why was he looking at her with such a strange gaze?

She then tried to tug on his hand. Seeing that he didn't lose his temper, she smiled immediately.

"You're hungry, aren't you, Hubby? I asked Aunt McGowan to bring some soup over. Seeing that you yelled at me last night, and I'm not angry at you anymore, let's call it even now, okay?"

Just then, a set of familiar footsteps approached their direction, and Victoria rushed to the door. "Aunt McGowan's here!"

Very quickly, she came back in with a big lunch bag and took the dishes out, even attentively putting them on a plate before bringing them over to Trevor.

The apple was cut into six pieces; a lot that was edible was wasted from the looks of it. Trevor still wasn't talking as he continued to stare at her, taking the fruit fork from her.

By the end of the meal, Victoria had gotten used to mumbling to herself and his silent stares, thinking he was only throwing a tantrum, acquiescing to their way of interaction. But what she didn't realize was the struggle that followed his silence. For the first time, he had a burning thought.

Had he done wrong by keeping a woman who didn't love him or even resented him by his side even if he truly loved her and was reluctant to part with her? coincidental, like a savior pulling him out of the various suffocating pressures for some reason. Perhaps the offset marriage had entangled them for too long. Or perhaps Frederick's new love and happy ending affected him greatly. Or perhaps it was because they've gotten along so well lately. Various reasons, all perfectly aligned; she entered his life just like that. He never bothered defiling a woman, let alone succumb to his desires. But because of her, he had broken all his rules...
