She looked at him with a pleading expression.

Daniel had no choice but to glance at the ringing phone. What bad timing.

Charlene glanced at the name on the phone, and a trace of guilt flashed across her face. Immediately, he knew it was Jennifer calling.

Without surprise, Charlene adjusted her breathing and answered the call. "What's up, Jennifer?"

"Charlene, is Daniel there with you? I… I've been held captive!" Jennifer then glanced at Bryson and took a deep breath, terrified by his menacing gaze.

"What?" Charlene shot up from her seat. "Where are you now? I'll come over with Daniel!"

"I'm at home!"

As soon as Jennifer spoke, Bryson's chiding voice followed next. "Hang up now!"

Charlene stood up in a panic, but seeing Daniel's calm demeanor, she quickly said, "Hurry up and come with me! Jennifer is in danger!"

"So what?" He shrugged.

She let out a soft sigh. "At the end of the day, she's still your wife. Besides, is this how you plan to get back at her?"

Daniel furrowed his brows and stood up, and Charlene let out a sigh of relief.
