Chapter 136: Chapter 136 Flame of Hatred

Kelly’s POV

I kept my straight face as I ran towards my car. I was about to get inside when someone grabbed my elbow. Pierce carefully turned me around so I could face him. He’s panting. He looked worried, pained and...terrified.

“Kelly, it’s not what you think—”

“I’m sorry,” I paused and swallowed hard. “I-I didn’t mean to barge in. I just...”

“Kelly, listen to me. Lexi and I...we’re nothing. We broke up years ago. I don’t love her anymore—”

“We broke up years ago too...” I whispered painfully.

His grip on my elbow loosened as he stared at my face. “I-I want us...to try again.”

“I guess this is not the right time—”

“I can’t wait for the right time, Kelly. I didn’t kiss Lexi. She just grabbed me and kissed me. I didn’t even expect her to show up again after five years. She just barged in my office and did that. Please, believe me...”

I took a deep breath and stared at his eyes. I saw the sincerity. The love. The fear of losing me again. I know him when he’s lying. I know him when he’s telling the truth. I know him too well and I couldn’t resist the urge to forgive him and forget about everything I have seen today.

Without thinking twice, I pulled him closer to me and kissed his cheek. I want to kiss his lips but Lexi’s lips just ravaged those.

He was frozen in his place but I felt his hand gently caressing the small of my back and it’s soothing.

“Am I forgiven?” He asked, whispering.

I tiptoed and moved my lips closer to his ear. “Give me some time. Let us clear our problems in life before we come back to each other.”

When our gazes met, I saw hope and trust in his eyes. He swallowed hard and then slowly nodded. “Please promise me you won’t unlove me.”

I smiled bitterly. “I can never unlove you, Pierce. I tried so hard but I failed all the time.”

I saw how his breathing hitched. He stared at my eyes and glanced at my lips. “I...badly want to kiss you right now.”

I lifted my arm and caressed his cheeks. “Get rid of Lexi, Pierce. Get rid of anyone who’s keeping us apart. I want to be happy. Please grant my wish.”

“I will. Please wait for me. Don’t get tired. Don’t...fall out of love.”

I squeezed my eyes closed when he held my hands and kissed them. I don’t even care if there are people outside watching us. I want to feel him. I want him to assure me that it’s only me for him. I want to hear it from his own lips that he loves me and that he will accept me even when I know myself that I’ve changed and I became a different person because of the pain that I’ve been through.

It’s true. Pain changes people but I guess not the feelings.

“Goodbye for now, Pierce.’

He looked me in the eyes and nodded. “Goodbye for now.”

I stared at him for a little while before I got in my car. I glanced at him before I drove off, somehow unworried.

I was okay while driving home, but my heart almost stopped beating when I saw a huge fire eating the condominium tower where I’m leaving.

My mind fell into chaos and I can only think about my daughter. I parked the car abruptly and ran towards the burning entrance of the tower when the firemen blocked my way.

“Ma’am! Ma’am, you can’t get inside.”

“NO! MY DAUGHTER! SHE’S INSIDE. PLEASE LET ME THROUGH.”

Tears rolled down my cheeks as I pushed the firemen but they’re stronger than me. I tried to slap them and use all my strength while shouting my daughter’s name. I couldn’t think straight. I couldn’t think of anything but my daughter. I would throw myself into the fire willingly just so I can save my baby. I can’t lose her. I’d die.

“KELLY!” I heard a familiar voice behind me.

I saw Emily and I grabbed her arms desperately. “Emily, help me. My daughter...My...d-daughter. She’s in...inside.”

“Kelly, no. She’s not inside. She was with me.”
