Jepson never imagined things would spiral into this unfixable situation–so rigid and irreparably broken. Elaine had completely severed ties with the Yeats family, becoming someone else’s daughter.

He could no longer think of Elaine as a sister, nor could he ever expect her to call him “brother” again.

“Jepson, are you doing well over there? Did you get my star postcard? I picked it out with my friends.”
