Chapter 102 novel Burn the Marriage, Keep the Crown

Cynthia Lynwood nodded slightly, trying to hold back tears that shimmered in her eyes, making her look even more pitiable.

Frederick felt a pang of sympathy.

"What on earth is going on?" Aaron asked.

"Miss Lynwood has been through an emotional shock, affecting her kidneys. Mr. Vance," the doctor lowered his voice, "this is a critical period for her recovery. She must avoid any further distress."

"I understand," Aaron replied.

After giving his instructions, the doctor left, and silence settled in the room.

After a moment, Aaron finally spoke up, "Has anyone visited today?"

"No," came the reply.

"It has nothing to do with Serena..." Frederick and Cynthia Lynwood both began to speak, then stopped abruptly.

Aaron looked at Frederick with a frown.

Frederick clarified, "Serena hasn't been here."

Cynthia lowered her head like a child caught in wrongdoing. "She… she sent me an e-invite to your wedding. I… I couldn't handle it, and that's why… that's why…"

Frederick frowned deeply. Although he didn't see Cynthia as entirely innocent, Serena's actions seemed too harsh. Knowing Cynthia's feelings for Aaron, sending the invitation during her recovery seemed thoughtless. If anything happened to Cynthia, Serena could face serious consequences.

Aaron pressed his fingers to his brow. "Block her number."

Cynthia fell silent.

In another part of town, Serena had just lain down when her phone rang. It was Director Thomas.

"Who is this generous gentleman?"

"I don’t know, but you'll probably find out when you meet his grandson tomorrow."

"Alright." Serena noted the meeting place Director Thomas mentioned.

As she hung up, she glanced up and saw Aaron standing in the doorway. The smile vanished from her face.

Great, just what she needed.

"Did you ask for the e-invite just to send it to Cynthia and upset her?"

Seeing Serena's smile disappear, Aaron's chest tightened.

Serena's heart twinged too. She had expected this confrontation but not so soon. Clearly, he couldn’t bear anyone bothering his precious Cynthia.
