Serena tiptoed into the living room.

She immediately spotted Aaron asleep on the couch.

Moonlight poured through the large windows, casting a soft glow over his face, accentuating the depth of his features.

He was wrapped in a cream-colored blanket.

It was Serena’s favorite blanket.

Well, it seemed she wouldn't be getting it back.

Serena snapped out of her thoughts and turned her gaze back to Aaron.

She wasn't sure if he was truly asleep or just resting his eyes.

After a moment's hesitation, she bravely stepped closer to him.

She watched him silently for a few minutes. Seeing that he remained still, Serena felt reassured.

Aaron was notoriously alert.

Even in his sleep, he could sense someone nearby and instantly wake up.

This time, he must have really been out cold.

Turning away with relief, Serena was startled when she felt her hand being held.

"Don't go!"

Her heart skipped a beat, and she froze in place.

After what felt like an eternity with no further movement behind her, she finally turned back. Aaron’s eyes were still closed, showing no sign of waking up. She let out a breath she didn’t realize she was holding.

Gently, she placed his hand back down.

"Don't go..." Aaron murmured in a voice tinged with pain.

Serena had never seen Aaron like this. She furrowed her brow.

Then she heard him speak again, "Baby, please don't go, I beg you."

Serena was taken aback.

"If you're looking for tenderness, you should go to Miss Lynwood."

Aaron clenched his fist, exhaling slowly after a moment, "Can't we just have a calm conversation?"

"There’s nothing left to discuss."

"Samuel isn't right for you," Aaron said, a vein throbbing on his forehead.

Serena smiled brightly, like the morning sun streaming through the windows.

"Mr. Vance, that's my personal business, no need to trouble yourself."

Aaron continued, "Samuel..."

"Are you going to say Samuel isn't a good man? You said the same about William last time."

Aaron's gaze hardened as he looked at Serena, speaking with utmost seriousness, "What I'm saying is, he is a good man. But precisely because he's a good man, he's not right for you. Being with him will only end up hurting him."

Serena met Aaron's eyes, her heart skipping several beats in uncertainty, "What do you mean by that?"
