After Serena spoke, she pushed Maggie aside.

Maggie’s face flushed bright red, her eyes blinking nervously. "We're talking about your issues right now. Don't drag others into this."

"The root of the problem lies with Aaron. Why shouldn't I bring him up? Or is your sense of justice only aimed at women?"

Maggie's face turned the color of a ripe tomato, stammering, unable to find words. The others remained silent, afraid of being labeled as misogynistic. But inwardly, they couldn't help but marvel.

Serena had always been fiercely protective of Aaron. Once, when someone badmouthed him behind his back, Serena nearly tore them apart. But today, she was turning against Aaron—it was truly astonishing.

At the hospital.

Cynthia Lynwood was in tears. "No! I don’t want the surgery! I don’t want to die!"

Matthew looked helplessly at Aaron. "Aaron, can you try to comfort her?"

Aaron wasn’t good at comforting people. "Cynthia, listen to the doctors. Undergo the surgery. It's the only way you’ll get better."

"But I'm scared of dying..." Cynthia clutched Aaron’s hand tightly. "Aaron, I'm really terrified. Can you stay by my side until the surgery is over?"

"Of course..." Aaron hesitated, thinking of Serena still at the restaurant, his voice growing hoarse, "I can."

A glint of triumph flashed in Cynthia Lynwood’s eyes. "Aaron, you’re so kind."

Cynthia nodded vehemently, eyes shining. "I understand, Matthew. You’re so good to me. But..."

Her expression turned somber. "Even though I faked being sick this time, my illness is real. I'm afraid I won't find a suitable kidney donor, and then..."

"Don't say that," Matthew squeezed her hand firmly. "Aaron is the wealthiest man in Alderburg, and his connections are extensive. With so many people in the Republic of Valeria, they're bound to find a match for you."

"But even if they find one, the person might not agree. After all, it’s a kidney."

Matthew chuckled. "You don’t need to worry about that. With Aaron’s resources, he can make anyone willingly give you their kidney."

Cynthia’s confidence returned, her worries vanishing.
