“My brother is really hopeless. Grandma sent him here to look after you, not to start a fight. When I get back, I’m telling Grandma all about this, so she’ll give him a good scolding!” 

“Grandma sent him?” Suzy blinked. 

She’d assumed he’d secretly followed her, finding out about her accident just to enjoy her misfortune. 

“Yeah, I was with Grandma this morning for her check–up. We happened to see you being brought in by the Goodwin family’s car. I wanted to check on you, but with the Goodwin people around, it wasn’t convenient. 

“On our way back, my brother called to ask about Grandma’s test results, and I mentioned that I’d seen you here. So, Grandma told him he should stop by and check on you. 

She thought he wouldn’t bother coming at all–who’d have thought he’d actually show up so quickly? Could he be regretting things? 

As Diana spoke, she opened the thermos she’d brought, pouring a bowl of soup. “Try some, Suzy! Grandma made it herself; I don’t even get this kind of treatment!” 

Suzy accepted it gratefully, her throat tightening a little. “I didn’t mean to worry her.” 

Diana’s eyes softened. “She’s been really worried about you. Ever since the divorce, she barely sleeps, always sighing and feeling guilty about how things ended.” 

Hearing this made Suzy’s heart ache even more. “Diana, please tell her I’m sorry.” 

“No way you tell her yourself.” Diana took her hand. “You promised me when you left that you’d still come back to see Grandma, even after the divorce. She’s been waiting for you to keep that promise.” 

Suzy pressed her lips together. “Once things settle down, I’ll go see her for sure.” 

“You can’t go back on your words!” 

Diana suddenly remembered something. “By the way, how did you end up being brought here by the Goodwin family?” 

“Oh, I’m working for the Harlow family now, and Mr. Claude sent me to the Goodwins on his behalf. I happened to be there when Mr. Martin had an accident, so I stepped in to help and ended up injuring myself in the process.” 

“That explains it!” 

They chatted a bit more, and Suzy tried to see if Diana knew anything about Dylan’s connection with Mark. But, as with her previous investigation, Diana’s answers confirmed

they only had a casual acquaintance, and the Wright and Goodwin families had little 

interaction. 

But if that were truly the case, why would Mark risk offending the Harlow family just for Dylan? Could Allen be right that it was simply because Claude was easier to manipulate? 

After Diana left, Suzy’s gaze fell on the bowl of fruit on the table. She sat in silence for a moment, then leaned over, picked up a strawberry, and popped it into her mouth. 

Tart and sweet–it wasn’t bad, after all. 

Since she’d napped during the day, Suzy found herself wide awake that night. Claude had offered to come visit her, but she declined. With his limited mobility, there was no need for him to make the trip, especially since she wasn’t really hurt. 

Unable to sleep, Suzy decided to find something to occupy herself. She dressed in dark clothes, blending into the night, and returned to the Goodwin estate, heading straight for Martin’s quarters in the back. 

As Allen had pointed out, Mark was a tough nut to crack, so she’d have to start again with Martin. 

Just as she’d done earlier, Suzy quietly hypnotized Martin once more. 

With her task complete, she didn’t leave right away. Instead, she slipped into Mark’s study. If he was truly involved in her family’s tragedy, he couldn’t possibly have left no trace behind. 

She combed through the entire study, but there was nothing–not a single piece of evidence, not even the slightest clue. 

Just as she was preparing to leave empty–handed, she spotted someone who had no reason to be there.
