Suzy wondered if Anne would punish Dylan for failing to deliver the outcome she wanted. 

However, Dylan hadn’t gone to see Anne to report to her, he was there to settle the score.

Anne stared at him, completely stunned. “Mr. Dylan, what’s gotten into you?” 

Why was he acting so crazy in the middle of the night? 

Damn it, he’d been slapping her far too often lately. Did he really think she was such an easy target? 

Seeing the defiance in her eyes, Dylan felt the rage boil in his chest. He wanted nothing more than to strangle her. “You told Suzy that everything I’ve done was fake, just a show to help you get revenge?” 

Anne was speechless. How did he find out? 

“Mr. Dylan, I didn’t! Why would I ever say something like that to Suzy?” Anne defaulted to her usual tactic–denial. “I don’t know who’s been feeding you lies or what their motive is, but I swear I never said that. I swear on my life!” 

She even raised three fingers in a mock oath. 

Dylan’s expression darkened. Oaths meant nothing to him. People made them all the time, and yet, how many actually faced any consequences for breaking them? 

Seeing her stubborn refusal to admit anything only deepened his disgust. “Anne, don’t think that denying it will make me believe you. Let me warn you–if you ever dare to spew more lies about me to Suzy, I’ll make sure you never speak again.” 

Anne had no doubt he meant every word. Dylan was no longer the man who had once protected her. 

Now, he couldn’t care less about her. 

His heart, his mind–everything about him–was consumed by that damned Suzy! 

After Dylan left, Anne immediately dialed a number. “Didn’t you promise to take care of Suzy? Why hasn’t anything happened yet?”

The voice on the other end was calm. “What’s the rush? Suzy will die soon enough.” 

“And when exactly is ‘soon enough‘?” Anne snapped, her patience fraying. “I’ve done everything you’ve asked of me, yet you keep delaying your end of the deal. If you weren’t capable of following through, why make such bold promises in the first place? 

“I don’t care. I’m giving you three more days. If I don’t hear news of Suzy’s death by then, I won’t hesitate to go straight to Dylan and tell him everything! 

“Not that I mean anything to him anymore, but who knows? Maybe once I confess, his attitude toward me will change.” 

“Are you threatening me?” 

“This isn’t a threat–it’s a fact! I can’t wait any longer!” Anne hissed, her voice dripping with resentment. “You’ve seen how Dylan treats me now. 

“If this drags on any longer, Suzy might survive, but I won’t. Dylan will kill me first. And it’s all because of her. Suzy has to die!” 

The voice on the other end chuckled, completely unfazed. “Dylan won’t kill you. If he intended to, you wouldn’t still be alive. So be patient. When the time comes, I’ll fulfill my promise.” 

Anne opened her mouth to argue, but the line abruptly went dead. 

Staring at the disconnected call, rage boiled within her. 

With a furious scream, Anne hurled her phone across the room, watching as it shattered on the floor. That wasn’t enough to vent her anger–she swept the fruit bowl and glasses off the table, sending them crashing to the ground. 

As shards of glass scattered across the floor, her eyes burned with a hatred so intense it felt 

corrosive. 

“You won’t act, huh? Fine. Then I’ll take matters into my own hands!”
