Suzy felt a pang of guilt for lying to Grace, but she had no choice. If Grace ever learned the truth, it would devastate her. No matter what, the news of Dylan’s disappearance had to be kept from her. 

“Let that rascal talk to me,” Grace said over the phone, still sounding uneasy. “I’ve been having bad dreams lately. Maybe it’s because I haven’t seen you two in so long. I can’t help but let my mind wander.” 

“He’s in the shower right now, Grandma,” Suzy replied smoothly. “As soon as he’s out, I’ll have him call you back.” 

Every time Grace called, Suzy had to come up with a new excuse. Once or twice, it worked, but after several times, Grace was bound to grow suspicious. 

After hanging up, Suzy activated a voice synthesizer she’d prepared earlier, perfectly mimicking Dylan’s voice. She called Grace back 

“Grandma…” 

The moment Grace heard Dylan’s voice, she relaxed, her worry melting away. “You little rascal! You’ve been gone so long. If I didn’t call, would you have forgotten about me?” 

Her words carried a scolding tone, but underneath it was nothing but care and longing. Listening to Grace’s affectionate rant, Suzy’s heart felt heavy. 

After the call ended, she stared out at the dark night sky, her chest tightening with resolve. “Dylan, no matter where you are, I’ll find you and bring you back to Grandma.” 

Clearing her mind, Suzy prepared to sleep, but a shadow outside her window caught her attention. 

Her eyes narrowed slightly, but she gave no indication of noticing, pulling the blanket over herself and turning off the light. 

Her breathing slowed, steady and even, as she feigned sleep. 

Moments later, she heard the faint sound of her door being opened. Footsteps crept closer, barely audible. 

Suzy’s fingers twitched under the blanket, but she stayed perfectly still. 

As the shadow approached the bedside and raised a gun to aim at her, Suzy sprang into action. Her foot lashed out, striking the intruder hard and sending him staggering backward. 

Realizing it was a trap, the figure turned and bolted for the door. But Suzy wasn’t about to let him escape so easily.

After a few exchanges, Suzy managed to overpower the intruder. She flicked on the light, revealing a masked man. 

“Who sent you?” 

The man clamped his mouth shut. “Do what you want–kill me if you have to!” 

“Remember, you 

said it yourself.” Without hesitation, Suzy dislocated both of his arms, her tone icy. “You still have a chance to rethink your decision before speaking again.” 

The man’s face turned deathly pale, beads of sweat forming on his brow. “It’s just a life. I never planned to leave here alive anyway, so cut the crap and finish me off already!” 

“You want to die? I’ll make sure you get your wish, but not just yet.” 

Suzy handed him over to Victor. “Your turn.” 

Victor smirked. “Just watch and see.” 

When it came to extracting information, Victor was a pro. It didn’t take long for the man to break, spilling everything they needed to know. “Selena sent me. She paid me ten thousand dollars to kill you.” 

“Selena,” Victor muttered, his dark eyes narrowing. “So, she really was lying. Looks like Maya was right–Dylan must be with her. Otherwise, why would she send someone to kill you in the middle of the night? Though, to be honest, she’s insultingly cheap. Only ten thousand dollars for you, Suzy? The infamous Suzy Frost?” 

“Enough with the commentary,” Suzy snapped. “Focus on finding Dylan!” 

Without wasting another second, Suzy set off to confront Selena once more. This time, there would be no more games.
