Suzy’s words carried an underlying message: the only reason her attitude toward Dylan had changed was because she felt grateful to him. 

But gratitude was the last thing Dylan wanted from her. 

“Suzy, everything I’ve done for you has been entirely my choice,” Dylan said earnestly, his eyes fixed on her. “I don’t need your gratitude.” 

Suzy was speechless. 

Well, he’d seen right through her. 

It was true. The main reason she was willing to give Dylan a chance wasn’t because she still had feelings for him. It was because of everything he had done for her. 

She was someone who drew clear lines between love and hate. While Dylan had hurt her deeply in the past, most of it had been because of Anne’s interference. So, she had decided to let the past go. 

His legs were injured because of her, and if he couldn’t recover, she felt it was her responsibility to stand by him. 

Seeing Suzy’s silence, Dylan knew he had guessed correctly. With a bitter smile, he was about to say more when Suzy’s phone suddenly rang. 

“I need to take this,” she said, turning away to answer. 

The call was from Riley. “Boss, are you all okay?” 

Riley had come with Allen and Dylan, but when they went to find Suzy, they insisted she stay behind. They claimed it was safer to split up given the uncertainty of the situation. 

Left to wait in one spot, Riley had grown increasingly anxious as time passed with no word. Even Allen wasn’t answering his phone, leaving her worried something terrible had happened. 

In desperation, she decided to try calling Suzy, not expecting the call to actually connect. 

Suzy asked Riley, “You’re here too?” 

“Yes, I came with them…” Riley mentioned a location. “Allen said that if you all got out safely, you’d call me. But I waited and waited, and he never called. Even when I tried to reach him, he didn’t pick up. I was worried something might’ve happened, so I called you.” 

Her voice was filled with concern, and Suzy quickly reassured her by explaining their current situation. Then she added, “I’ll have Allen come pick you up shortly!” 

After hanging up, Suzy glanced at Dylan. “Since you don’t want my gratitude, I’ll find

Thinking this, Allen added, “If anyone has had it rough, it’s my boss. She went through so much as a kid, and later had to deal with your pathetic boss.”
