Chapter 0490
“I said, check if Nadia is sick!” Victor repeated, raising his voice for emphasis.
“Nadia’s sick?” Graham asked, his exhaustion evident.
“If I knew the answer, would I have called you? Victor snapped.
The whole point of this call was to confirm the truth.
Finally, Graham seemed to shake off his post–surgery daze. “So, you suspect she’s unwell and want me to look into it?”
“Exactly.”
“Why don’t you just ask her yourself?” Graham sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose, trying to ease the tension in his head. “I’m swamped right now and got no time for this. If you want to know, go ask her. It’ll even make you look like you care.”
“Who said I care about her?” Victor retorted, voice sharp. “My grandfather’s birthday is coming up, and if something is wrong with her, he’ll be upset. I’m doing this for him!”
“Right, right,” Graham replied, his tone dripping with sarcasm. “You’re not concerned about her at all. Everything you’re doing is purely for your grandfather. After all, why would you care about an orphan like Nadia?”
“Cut the crap and just check for me,” Victor barked. “I’m sure you can spare five minutes out of your busy schedule!”
“Fine. I’ll check in a bit,” Graham grumbled.
“Hurry it up!”
After hanging up, Victor found himself anxiously awaiting Graham’s reply. Though only about ten minutes passed, it felt like the longest ten minutes of his life.
He must’ve checked his phone at least twenty times, jumping at every little notification, only to feel his stomach sink each time it wasn’t Graham.
Finally, his phone rang, and he answered instantly. “Well? What’s the result?”
“I checked all the major and minor hospitals–there’s no record of Nadia having any medical condition,” Graham replied. “Who told you she was sick? Are you sure they weren’t just making it up?”
“So, you’re saying Nadia isn’t sick at all?” Victor asked, still processing.
“Doesn’t seem like it. If she had anything serious, it would’ve been on record. But right now, there’s nothing in any hospital database that shows she’s been diagnosed or treated for any illness.

Victor finally felt a wave of relief wash over him. “I knew it. There’s no way she could be sick. People always say the good die young while troublemakers live forever. Someone like her? Even if I were to drop dead, she’d still outlive me.”
What Victor didn’t know was that Nadia had gone to great lengths to erase her medical history. To keep Victor’s grandfather from finding out, she’d hacked into the hospital’s system and completely wiped her medical records.
After ending the call, Victor returned to Dylan’s room as if nothing had happened.
Suzy and Dylan were still deep in discussion, analyzing the identity of the mysterious
woman.
“After investigating Evangeline’s siblings, one person stands out as highly suspicious- her elder sister, Serena Ford,” Dylan said, handing Suzy the report.
“Serena Ford?” Suzy asked, her brow furrowing as she scanned the document.
“She and Evangeline are full–blooded sisters–same father, same mother,” Dylan explained. “On the surface, their relationship seems close but look at this.”
He pointed to a section of the report. “These are Serena’s private accounts. Recently, there have been several large transactions. She’s also the one with the most access and opportunity to steal the royal medallion that allows someone to command the shadow guards.”
Dylan continued, “And there’s another thing–Evangeline clearly knows who the culprit is but refuses to say. Who else but her own sister would she go to such lengths to protect?”
Suzy’s eyes lingered on the details in the file. “If it’s her, then we need to meet Serena face -to–face.”
